Crave giveaway of the week: HP MediaSmart Server LX195

by David Carnoy
(Credit: HP)

Here we go again with another installment of the weekly Crave giveaway. This week's gadget: the HP MediaSmart Server LX195, a great network storage and backup device for home users.

In case you're wondering what CNET really thinks about it, CNET editor Dong Ngo recently gave the LX195 an Editors' Choice award. He says, "The device offers stellar performance, and great backup and remote access options for a reasonable price." (Read the full review of the HP MediaSmart Server LX195.)

Normally, HP's MediaSmart Server LX195 costs about $400, but you have the chance to get one gratis.

So, how do you try to win a free HP MediaSmart Server LX195? Let me enumerate the basic rules. Please read them carefully; there will be a test.

  • Register as a CNET user. Go to the top of this page and hit the "Join CNET" link to start the registration process. If you're already registered, no need to register again.
  • Leave a comment below. You can leave whatever comment you want. If it's funny or insightful it won't help you win, but we're trying to have fun here, so anything entertaining is appreciated.
  • Leave only one comment. You may enter this specific giveaway only once. If you enter more than one comment, you will be automatically disqualified.
  • The winner will be chosen randomly. The winner will receive one (1) HP MediaSmart Server LX195. Approximate retail value is $400.
  • If you are chosen, you will be notified via e-mail. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • Entries can be submitted until Monday, July 13, at noon EDT.
And here's the disclaimer that our legal department said we had to include (sorry for the caps, but rules are rules):

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENT OF ONE OF THE 50 UNITED STATES OR D.C., 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AT DATE OF ENTRY INTO SWEEPSTAKES. VOID IN PUERTO RICO, ALL U.S. TERRITORIES AND POSSESSIONS AND WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. Sweepstakes ends at 12 PM EDT on July 13, 2009. See official rules for details.

Good luck.

I'd give it a great home. I'd give it a nurturing environment -- full of attention, love, and I'd feed it all my media every day.

So I tripped over my dog on the way out the door this morning which wouldn't have happened if we had gotten a REAL dog in the first place but nooooo my wife has to have one of those little itty-bitty lap dog things like she sees on tv and hey since I'm a nice guy not to mention a pushover I get her one and she loves it and loves me all the more and she buys little collars and outfits and treats for him and he's relatively quiet which I don't mind and in fact is nice since he doesn't take up much space relatively speaking but i still say if we had gotten a golden retriever like I'd wanted none of this would have happened including me twisting my ankle as I was tripping over him and did I mention I had a volleyball tournament this weekend not to brag but I am aces in serving and it's hard to do that hopping on one leg and so henceforth the dog I bought my wife will no longer be allowed outside of the kitchen during morning hours until I have left for the day end of discussion no more talking just do it because my ankle really hurts and I'm resting it right now on top of my server under my desk which is realllllly slow and I could use a new one which leads me to what you are reading now my dear reader and I sincerely hope this server is a decent height for which I might rest my recently incapacitated limb.

Man I would really love this server for my home network, but you look like you could use it also to prop up your ankle. On the other hand, you could use this to download and distribute a boat load of grammar software for this gigantic run on sentence. Seriously, if I were to read this post out loud I would have to be put on oxygen for an hour. Thanks for at least throwing a period at the end, it shows that you are aces at English.
