The iPhone 3G S records video underwater, too

One of the hallmark features of the iPhone 3GS is video recording. Waterproofing, however, is not part of the package.

YouTube user KhenaKara was filming some poolside footage on his shiny new iPhone 3GS when disaster struck: the phone slipped out of his hand and into the depths of the swimming pool. Lucky for us, he put the video up on YouTube.

Best part: "Crap...wait, it still freakin' works!" Even better, he says that days after the incident the phone still works just fine.

Needless to say, this voids your warranty.

The new iPhone does have some waterproofing coating, after many people complained that sweats from workout kept getting into the phone.

So, to prevent this, Apple waterproofed some parts of the circuits and etc to be somewhat more more resistant to water.

My son left his ipod touch in about 2 inches of water for a couple of hours.

Pulled it out...couldn't get it to work...

Wrapped it very well in towels...tossed it in a full drier load and dried it on low.

Now it works except for the wifi (which works if you are right on the access point) and the sleep button on the top only works sometimes.

At least it works though!

My Iphone 3g went for a quick clean in the washing machine and it survived!!! Apple definitely makes some great products!

The release of iPhone 3GS states that Apple is now expanding its new product. However, the basic application of iPhone is unchanged---we can still use it to play movies or music or MTV. OK...still in today's world of electronics it seems a bit surprising that a $700 cell phone would survive a dip in the pool. But then again not really. It's mostly all IC's that are all sealed. It's hard memory, no drives. Circuit boards are probably sealed in some sort of resin for stability. The screen itself must also be air tight. Of course, you'd be a fool to try this yourself and this by no means is any recommendation that you do.

yea my ipod touch 2g made it through the washer....after putting it in the oven on lowest temp for a while..only a couple water dots visible...wasn't a fun day though

See, first of all, what was he thinking taking the phone to the pool. Anyone that's recording video with whatever they have that's not waterproof deserves to have their stuff dropped into the water. Teach them a lesson not to bring their phone near the pool.
