Wal-Mart is already selling Vizio's 1080p VO420M for $697 online.

Following the demise of Circuit City, Wal-Mart's been making a big push into the electronics market, and one of its PR folks let us in on a couple of upcoming "deals" on certain LCD TVs. The sale runs from June 14-20, or while supplies last.

We've seen lower prices on the Sony, but the Vizio and Sanyo look pretty close to rock-bottom. (Note: Just checked and Walmart is selling the Vizio VO420M) online for $697. The "M" and "E" series appear to be the same model--or at least very similar).

Update--Here are a few more electronics deals Walmart will be throwing out there for Father's Day:

  • Magnavox NB500MGX Blu-ray Disc player ($128 )
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play Wii bundle with Wii Motion Plus Accessory and protective sleeve ($59.96)
  • PS3 (80GB) Bundle including Quantum of Solace on Blu-ray Disc and the MLB '09: The Show ($399 )
  • Dell Inspiron Black Notebook Computer ($398--not sure which model) or Dell Studio One 19 All-in-one Touch Desktop Computer ($848)
  • Canon Pixma Ink Jet Photo Printer with Fax($69)
  • Seagate Free Agent Go 250GB Portable Hard Drive($69)
Note: Due to pricing laws, prices may differ in some states, such as Alaska, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico, and on Walmart.com.

Huh. I got my 42" Vizio from them for $729 on new years eve. :)

Can yall get rid of the Trojan and Cialis adverts please? This is a tech website, not a swingers hangout...

is the set you bought 120Hz also?
by ejhayes76 June 10, 2009 3:46 PM PDT
Why do you think only swingers uses Trojans and Cialis?
by iroq321 June 10, 2009 4:06 PM PDT
ejhayes

i'm sure not only swingers use those products although i gotta agree with Michichael in that those ads are a bit inappropriate for a tech site. i mean i like to check out this site every now and again while at work and if someone were to pass by and see those ads on my screen, they might question what i'm looking at and with good reason.

on topic: i've actually been eyeballing that vizio on wal-mart's site for a little while now, i might have to scoop it up come next week!
by dodgeman007 June 11, 2009 7:26 AM PDT
the real problem is not the adds at all here iroq321, its you wasting company time while on the clock... its called timeclock fraud and in EVERY job they will fire you over it... quit complaining about NOTHING and get back to work.

I agree about the advertisements. Couldn't they appear during later hours, when the kiddies are asleep, rather than during the day, when the kiddies are awake and squirming and playing on the internet? What if I want to show a cnet article to the kiddies? I'm forced to deal with the issue of condoms on cnet's terms, not on my own. A site like cnet really ought to be a safe zone. In a perfect world, I guess, but I don't think that's too much to ask.
by make_or_break June 11, 2009 9:42 AM PDT
Hey, CBS is calling the shots now. Obviously they've decided on catering to the actual demographics that actually USE this site.

Considering Cialis...this is NOTHING...just wait until the big ticket, hardcore pharmaceutical ads start showing up. Didn't know twenty-somethings needed Plavix, did ya?
by lrblandon June 11, 2009 11:53 AM PDT
Hey QuadFather? What the heck are kiddies? And don't you know that it is important to teach those kiddies about safety. If you don't they will learn it on there own the hard way. After they have one in the oven and it's too late! How about them VIZIOS?

jumb0 - if you repost this between June 14 and June 20 it might be an issue.

wrong. Just picked up 2 - Sanyo DP37649 yesterday at Walmart and actualy it was $379.
by drjnsy June 18, 2009 9:38 PM PDT
It is in their Ad this week June 14-20th, you are correct it is not on the online website. I bought the 37"(dp37469) last sunday and it has a decent picture standard and clear picture with the hd connection. i was looking at the vizio 32" but went with the 37" sanyo which I am happy with right now as it is on the wall in my bedroom, for the price I cant complain. PS3 and blu-ray movies are great.

Is it just me? or does the "Vizio 1080p VO420E " link takes you to the "Vizio SV420XVT" review page?

You're right. We've since removed the inaccurate link.

In this economy, does Walmart seriously think they can sell more and more of these to people that are trying to pay off their credit card debts? Or concerned about having a job?

How many 42" sets do you have in the house right now? 1 or 2?

Obviously W-M thinks that there's a viable market for these sorts of prices, else they wouldn't bother to begin with. Frankly I don't share their optimism, but then again I'm also not in the market for another telly.

Even a monolith like Wal*Mart needs to shore up its cash flow.

Don't Trojan and Cialis go hand in hand?

I guess if Cialis is used by married men that go to hookers?
by stratplayer64 June 11, 2009 12:56 PM PDT
So is it the VO420M or the SV420XVT? The text says the VO420M, but the picture and the caption show the SV420XVT. If it's the latter, I'm definitely jumping on that. A 120hz LCD for less than $700 is a great deal.

Sorry, wrong picture was up. Walmart is selling the VO420M right now for $697. It appears to be the same or very similar to the VO420E they'll have for the sale.

We bought an RCA TV at Walmart last October. BE FORE WARNED. After 90 days they will not help you with anything, it's all on the warranty that came with the TV. We had trouble with the TV and had to haul it to the next town over to get it worked on. Of course, they didn't get it right and we need to take it back before the year is up. Extended warranties might be a good thing for anything you buy at Chinamart (walmart).

ok how is this ANY different than any other store in the country? Most places tell you have fun with that after 14-30 days. 90 days is an eternity for a store to offer help with a bad product and one of the ONLY nice things about walmart...

As for people saying check out sears, they have a much shorter return policy and their restocking fee applies to TV's. Most places don't yet charge a restocking fee on a TV, that used to just be computers and cameras and such.

Oh for everyone complaining about the ads. This site EXISTS to make money. The public at large showed they are not willing to actually PAY for content on the web, and we are in a very hard economy. If that is the only ad income they can get they are not going to turn it down. The alternative is Cnet goes out of business since i doubt most of you would pay a subscription to this site. If you are complaining about "what about the children" you need to grow up and start teaching the kids about the real world before they find out on their own. If they are old enough to read those ads and know *** that even is they should have more of an understanding about sex. No sex is not a dirty word either btw in case you were wondering or not sure. I hope cnet comes through and deletes all this irrelevant garbage that has nothing to do with the topic of this article. If you have issue with it send a complaint letter to them, stop coming to the site, and DON'T click on the ads. If you dont do those things cnet does not make money. They will either change their ways (like start offering a subscription with no ads, or go out of business.

Great prices; you need to get rid of the condom add. I am at work and it is not this is not the place for it.

I would agree with the comments about the ad. I was hoping to show my boss the article, but cannot without some odd looks. Look, I have no problem with freedom of speech, but it does make it odd to talk with your boss (corporate HQ) and that ad is "hangin'" around. I guess I can say hey look at the TV that we have in our stores that will be on sale and some of the accessories you can pick up to!
