On Thursday, Verizon Wireless announced the upcoming availability of the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230. Joining T-Mobile and Alltel, Verizon will offer the smartphone starting June 19 for $129.99 with a two-year contract and after a $70 mail-in rebate.

The Pearl Flip is RIM's first clamshell BlackBerry and features a 2-megapixel camera, a SureType keyboard, external and internal displays, and a microSD expansion slot (up to 16GB). The 3G-enabled Pearl 8230 also works with Verizon's various services, including VZ Navigator and Visual Voice Mail, though these enhancements do come with an added cost.

Other highlights include support for BlackBerry App World, BlackBerry Internet Service, and BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and multimedia capabilities. In addition to in-store purchase, the smartphone will be available online and comes in a silver color.

Yet I still won't buy this because the data plan is way too high.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Sprint's data play 15 dollars for ALL phones, not just "dumb" phones?

Blackberry has a specific charge just for Blackberry data plans. I believe the charge is the same no matter what carrier.

Sprint's 450 minute plan with unlimited data is $69.99. Verizon's 450 minute plan is $39.99 and the Blackberry add on for data is $29.99. Same price.

So have I. I'm happy with Verizon and I like BlackBerry but do not want a sandwich-like phone stuck to my ear. I'm glad the Pearl Flip is finally here.

I totally agree I love Verizon, and i LOVE my blackberry, but i hate how big it is! I cant wait for the flip blackberry to come out! In Canada their cell phone carriers have a black/pink flip blackberry, i am jealous!
