Update (4:42pm PT): For a more complete examination of the PSP Go, see PSP Go: What we know so far.

Although Sony's E3 press conference isn't until 11 a.m. Tuesday, one of its centerpieces appears to have been prematurely exposed. A YouTube video of what appears to be the next issue of the PlayStation-focused video magazine Qore has revealed that Sony will use its event to unveil a new PSP model, the PSP Go.

PSP Go

Sony is expected to unveil the PSP Go at its press conference Tuesday at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

As had been widely rumored, the PSP Go will have a sliding form factor like the Mylo, Sony's ill-fated Internet communicator device. The new handheld--which does not sport a second thumbstick--is shown several times in the video, which features Qore host Veronica Belmont and John Koller, director of hardware marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America.

According to Koller, the main differences between the PSP Go and the PSP 3000 are "on-board memory, the flash memory, and 16 gigs of space. There's Bluetooth on board as well, so you can use a Bluetooth headset, and you can actually tether it to your cell phone as well. But ultimately, it's the portability. Since you can bring all that content with you in a smaller form factor, you've got the most immersive games to play, and now you've got a smaller unit to do it with."

Though he does not say that the device will not have a UMD (Universal Media Disc) drive--as is rumored--he did say that the emphasis will be on downloadable games. "Little Big Planet, Jak & Daxter, Metal Gear Solid--all those will be available. So will all the movies you can rent or buy on the PlayStation Network. So you can bring so much content over with you and fill up that 16 gig of flash memory."

Koller also appears to reveal that the long-lost PSP Gran Turismo Mobile game--first shown off in 2004--will resurface at next week's expo. "There are games like Gran Turismo being announced at E3," said the executive.

Host Belmont then asks, "So since it's called the PSP Go, I would image it will work with Remote Play as well." Koller responds with the following blanket statement: "Integration with the PS3 is very important, and it works just like the PSP 3000. A lot of people like to be able to take their PS3 content with them on the go."

As for the PSP Go supplanting its predecessor, Koller said flatly: "It won't replace the PSP 3000. We're going to keep them both on the market." Koller did not mention a price, release date, or whether it would have a touch screen when closed. Sony Computer Entertainment America reps had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

No kidding, the pix on gizmodo and engadge are way better than the dark blurry one presented here.

its ugly, it has no UMD (making it incompatible with the existing PSP library), i needs a touch screen, and it WILL not make the market like sony hopes.

All this does it make me want to find a PSP-1000, hack it, make it awesome.

this thing is full of fail.

i also had a better look at the pics...i ditches the standard USD mini connector and replaces it with some proprietary thing. not even worth it.

No, where is the second joystick and the PSP2?

I'll get the ZuneHD!

a better question is why isnt the analog stick on the full side instead of the center. i though that wa on of the only real problems with the PSP.

honestly, if this was the device that they had dropped 4 years ago, it would have suffered the same fate as the Mylo

Wow what a disappointment, I was really looking forward to an entirely new successor to the PSP but they are both going to be available and sold side by side? Ooooook. Hmmm....I hope Sony really convinces me with some features that are worthwhile during the E3 coverage...if not then its a Zune HD for me =D

So after already having the PSP on the market for a few years now and having had the chance to collect customer feedback - what do Sony do?

"Hey let's just ignore those gamers - what do they know! No we only need one joystick; hey to save space lets make it a bit squatter and shove it into this recessed hole"

So - no 2nd joystick for the FPS'ers out there (me included) and now even harder to play with. Wonder how long before someone gets carried away and snaps the screen from the main body in trying to twist their hands to the shape.

Think I will let my old PSP continue to collect dust in the cupboard and wait another few years for a console I can use. Maybe it will have some games worth playing that will exceed the number of digits on my hands.

Yawn Sony - YAWN!!!!!!!!!

Is Sony serious? You mean to tell me that after all these years of complaining, Sony still plans to release yet another PSP without a 2nd analog stick?! Unreal.......Though I'm appreciative of the 16 Gb of built in flash as well as the inclusion of bluetooth, the complete disregard for the needs of PSP fans intolerable. I will not likely buy this.......and besides, what am I going to do with my existing UMD-based games? Does Sony want us to purchase them again as downloads?

Why not? Nintendo's failure to include a GBA Slot, and introducing a DSWare store shows that they too are expecting people to re-buy their stuff as well.

This is going to be sick!!!!!!!!!!
I cant wait for this to come out!!!!!!

I'm not a big fan of buying stuff digitally.....but the whole thing looks clean......and its good to hear that its not a replacement to the 3000.....just another choice which means my psp will not be thrown away

No dual analog, no touch screen, only 16 gigs of memory, still no games. Final nail in the PSP coffin.

4 years later, and my psp-1000 is still the best hand held sony has put out. Sad.

Also will gran turismo mobile actually be coming out (finally), and compatible?!

I have always felt that the psp has had great potential to be the next big thing, like the ipod or iphone.
I know that the user interface is going to be great but the hardware seems lacking, like so many others said before me.
With the iphone being the oh-so-awesome device that it is, and other phones catching up to it in several features, including gaming, which the iphone is pretty good at, I cannot see anybody except a teenager or a techgeek sporting one of these.
They SHOULD have included a bigger (pref OLED) screen, touch screen, second analog stick, accelerometer, or some other outlandish piece of hardware which would make someone actually want this. What the hell, just add some crazy Nvidia or ATI graphics card and market it as the next big leap in gaming. (Maybe nvidia/ati dont make so small Graphic cards but sony could convince them if they wanted. I know steve jobs could if he had to!!
I have always upgraded my psp with each new version but I am getting the feeling that I shouldnt this time. I'll buy it anyways, because I love the ps3 integration but I am getting the feeling that this product might not be so successful.

I haven't used my UMD drive for years, except when I first buy a game, I copy it over to the stick. After that, I play it from the stick. It's a lot easier than running around with my cases of 8 UMDs per case... So that's not really a big loss.

It's hard to understand why they did not roll out dual-analog thumbsticks. I was an early adopter of the original PSP, and the lack of a second thumbstick rendered it unplayable. I'm not going to fall for this twice, Sony. You've had four years to fix this obvious mistake.

Folks, you still don't get it. Sony does not, and never has, care for its fan base. They release a product and make money off fanboys that will play anything with playstation written on it. Combine that with all those kids begging their mommys and daddys for new shiny toys, and you just made alot of money without putting anything into R&D for a brand new product.

Its called rebranding, and so many suckers fall for it.

I like the new look, and hate all the features that it's missing. As far as I'm concered the new PSP has 3 pro's (Looks, internal memory, and bluetooth), and too many con's (no UMDs, no 2nd joystick [I really wish Sony would listen to EVERYONE about that], no touch screen [that and UMDs would make it worth upgrading ANYDAY], no accelerometer, I'm probably not going to get games for it even if I do get it because you have to download them, what am I going to do with all the UMD games I have and love, etc. The PSP has such potential; why doesn't Sony realize that? All they need to do is listen to the people who see what the PSP is and what it needs to be truely great.
