No, we're not talking about a ridiculously priced movie box set, but a Sony Blu-ray changer with a whopping 400-disc capacity. This tallies up to a jaw-dropping 20 terabytes of storage space, which puts the upcoming BDP-CX7000ES in a different league from your typical network-attached storage (NAS) device and home theater PC. Bear in mind that most consumer hard drives max out at 2 terabytes.

If you could fill this towering behemoth to the brim, chances are that its rumored $2,250 launch price will be the least of your concerns. We can't imagine the nightmarish prospect of a breakdown. Who is going to be accountable for your entire library of expensive Blu-ray discs if this ends up back at Sony's service center?

Well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. In the meantime, Sony hasn't given a firm rollout date for the BDP-CX7000ES just yet.

If you want a big black brick in your living room...maybe put a lamp on it or something.

We had one of these for DVDs a few years ago. Sony's hardware is pretty cool, but the software running that thing was AWFUL. It was a ridiculous pain to add a disc to the collection, not to mention name it, catagorize it if you wanted, and sort the list. Then it would take 15-20 minutes to scroll through all 400 movies if you were indecisive, because it took a good 10-15 seconds to load about 8 movie titles while scrolling through. It was easier to just keep a digital list of movies by number in MS Word, then search for the title. Hope they've rectified that.

Sony really needs to get a programmer to make better use of their hardware, instead of letting hardware guys develop UIs. Look at the PS3. Awesome, awesome hardware, yet there are so few worthwhile applications for this hardware (games included... *** Sony?!) that it's pointless to own one unless you REALLY want a Sony Network-capable Blu-Ray player.

For 2250 you can get at least 25 1 TB drives. More than enough to hold the entire library. I have a 400 disk Sony jukebox and it's a Royal PITA! Lousy software, slow performance, fragile (the instructions warn you not to move it with discs in it!) and a poor performer. It frequently flubs the playback of discs that play fine on other players. Definitely not recommended.

I agree with this. I also had the Sony jukebox (which recently died) and the software was terrible along with the load time. I had to leave the player on all the time and keep my DVD list on Ant Movie Catalog.

Question for raywkirk: How will you play all your Blu-Ray movies from your 25 1TB drives? If you use a computer with HDMI output, how much does that cost? If you use a product like the Iomega Screenplay Pro HD, you will need to pay about $250 for the 1 TB model and the software for that is much better than the Sony jukebox, but still cumbersome, only plays 1080i, and does not allow frame advance or slow motion playback. Not criticizing - only looking to see if you have the answer because I cannot find a good one.

I wouldn't pay for such a huge brick just to hold 400 discs. An Ikea bookshelf and a new pair of slippers will cost a lot less and I could then buy more discs.

We also have the Sony 400 disk jukebox. We like the idea but the software is
well - really sad...

I'll have to see what they have as soon as I buy another 388 Blu-ray disks :-)
