FCC gives nod to Samsung Android phone

Android fans will like this one. This week, the Federal Communications Commission approved another Android smartphone that's compatible with T-Mobile USA's 3G network. The Samsung i7500 follows the HTC Magic by almost two months, but it promises a 3.2-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, and 8GB of internal memory. The last time we met with Samsung, the company wouldn't provide specifics on the handset, but here's hoping that it hits the streets soon.

Because the FCC has to certify every phone sold in the United States, not to mention test its SAR rating, the agency's online database offers a lot of sneak peeks to those who dig. And to save you the trouble, Crave has combed through the database for you. Here are a selection of filings from the past week on new and upcoming cell phones. Click through to read the full report.

The Samsung does have a touch screen. How else would you operate the onscreen soft keyboard? :)

I'm a big fan of the physical keyboard on my G1, but I would like to check out the OLED display of the I7500.

Hopefully, this will light a fire under Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc. to get their Android devices to market more quickly. Each vendor is likely to have a slightly different take on Android and it would be nice, as a consumer, to be able to compare all of the products, before making a decision.
