Upcoming CNET HDTV reviews

Samsung's LNB750 series is among the most-requested of new HDTV reviews.

(Credit: Samsung)

Like most CNET editors, I get plenty of reader mail asking what products I'm reviewing next, so here's a list of HDTVs I have in-house or, according to the manufacturers, are scheduled for imminent arrival at CNET Labs East. Each list is arranged in general order of priority for review, although that order is by no means set in stone.

You'll notice a lot of Samsungs on that list. One reason is that Samsung TVs are quite popular with readers, so I tend to want to review them; another is that Samsung has been the most-responsive, despite some delays, in getting me review samples. I've also put in requests for new models from Mitsubishi (both LCD and DLP), Sharp, and LG, but so far haven't received confirmation that any of those models are on the way.

In the meantime, if you're hankering to read my review of a particular HDTV that's currently shipping, or you think any of these sets is a waste of my time, go ahead and leave a comment. Since I can use blogs like this as leverage with manufacturers to get more review samples, comments work better than e-mail.

No Samsung 550 Series?? .... noooo .....thats the only one that comes in a 63 incher.....Cnet I think you need to test how resonsive Samsung really is and get one of those bad boys in your labs. Thats the #1 on my list to get in the next month and there is absolutly zero professional reviews on the internet right now for it.

Hey spork,

Trust me, I've asked. They won't send it, at least not yet. These things have a tendency to change if demand increases enough, however. You never know.

I know it's not shipping yet, but the Panasonic V series plasma. I want to know if the 96Hz refresh rate solves the 24fp flicker problem, and how it stacks up against the G series. My next TV purchase depends on this review. I also want more pictures because this is one sweet looking TV.

Also is the one pane of glass design on the V series up to 50 or 54 inch? I've seen conflicting reports. I hope 54" is still one pane design.

Katz, first time writer, long time reader! I'm with sticks1839 I'm jazzed to see the Panny V series and see if Panny got it right and all of it. Expedite this one to the top of your list, as I've been waiting for 6 months and am getting weak!! Thanks for all the knowledge, keep it up!

I too have been waiting for the PANASONIC V SERIES for longer than I can remember. I would of bought a G series if they actually made a big screen. I am interested in the V10 65" Plasma. Who cares about LCDs. Please please please please move this monster TV to the top of the list. If the pic quality is not to par, then I'm buying the 60" Kuro....If I can still find one that is...lol. Thanks Katz!

Ditto on the V-Series Panasonics. If the 96Hz fixes the 24fp issue I'm probably buying this one. I'd really like to hear about the Vizio LED backlight LCD as well.

To everyone waiting for a V10: sorry, but I don't yet have a commitment from Panasonic for delivery of a review sample. I'll reply to this thread (somewhere higher up) when I do.

Sticks,

If you check Panasonic's Web site the V10s are up. The 50'' is $2200 and the $54 is $2600 and they both have the one sheet of glass design, according to the Web site. I also want to see a Katz review of the V series. I've already seen the G10 in person, but I'm waiting to see the V10 before I make my decision between the two. I've been waiting for a long time for these tvs, ever since Cnet reported on them from CES. Hopefully Panasonic comes through and provides Katz with a review sample.

pbomb, thanks for the Panny update. I was excited to see they finally have some pricing. I'm still holding out for the 65" pricing. If its not too outrageous then I'm buying it that day. I still think the 54" size would still be way too small for my room. Hurry up JUNE, I can't wait any longer!!!

Katz, any update on the Panny V10? I know it's available now direct from Panasonic.

Really interested in the Panasonic THX models. From everything I've read they blow away everything in both performance and cost.

I can't wait for the 52B750 review. I have the set now and it's awesome! Much better all around then the 55B7100 I had. If you don't need the slim and extra three inches get the 52B750. You're eyes and wallet will thank you!

this is my dilema i dont know whether to buy the 52B750 or the 55B7000, the B7000 is alot more expensive but you think that the 52B750 is better for the price?

I second that motion. I was very close to purchasing a Panasonic 58PZ800U last fall, that is until I found out about the 24p issue. Panasonic is claiming that the upcoming V series will not have the same flicker problem, and I'm anxious to see if their claim holds up.

I have been waiting for your review of the Panasonic TC-P54G10? Has Panasonic indicated any date for cnet to receive the unit? Are you still planning on reviewing that particular model? Is it still scheduled for release in May? As a 54" or 55" unit is my maximum size, I would be interested in any other units you feel are competitive.

Please, Please, Please do what you can to review the new Samsung 9000 series when it comes out ASAP. If the A950 is any indication of how the quality will be then I can't wait to get my hands on one after your review. (if it get high praise of course) :) My opinion is that Samsungs tend to get colors correct which is why they are also in higher demand.

I did not see the soon to be released Visio LCD with the LED backlighting (local area dimming). If you get one in for review I would very much like to have your take on it.

Please do a review of the Panasonic TC-L37G1 LCD TV. Panasonics tend to do very well with screen uniformity and off-angle viewing. I'd love to see how this TV rates against a Sony V-series. Thanks.

DK,
Can we get a Pioneer KRP monitor review? A last tip of the hat to a dying breed?

And any additional Toshiba or LG LCD reviews are always welcome.

Are you trying to get the new LG 55LHX to review?? This is the top of the line model with the external media box and LED backlight.

Would also love to see a review of the Toshiba SV670U. I believe this is the top of the line model with LED backlight. As the LED baclit (not edge lit) models come out I would love to see reviews as this is the type of TV I will be purchasing. The Toshiba SV670U and the LG 55LHX are two of the hot ones coming out and I'd love to see if you can review these. Any chance?

I'd love to see a review of the PN58B850... at the moment i'm trying to decide between the 850/860 sammy and the panasonic 58V10, though i don't know if i can wait that long for the V10 (august? c'mon man)

the styling on these new samsung plasmas look simply stunning, but i want to know how it does as far as the colors, motion handling, and black levels.

i have to second this (along with chitechfan and jwill17's comments below)...i'm very interested in a review of both the samsung pn50b850 and the panasonic tc-p50v10 plasmas (though the 650 sammy may be the same as the 850 other than thickness), thanks keep up the great work!

I'm really excited to see a review on the Vizio VF551XVT. The bang for the buck on this tv seems almost too good to be true! I'm planning on getting a big screen soon, and was looking at the the panny G10 and V10 ,and samsung b650 plasmas, but if the Vizio delivers the goods, it'll definately make my choice more difficult

Thanks

I defnitely want to see the review of the Samsung plasma B650. I'd also like to see a review of the B850 or B860. Is there any difference other than thinkness? I'm trying to decide between those and the Panasonic G10 (maybe V10 too). I would have gone with the Panasonic immediately except for the color accuracy issues. Samsung was definitely better in the past and I'm hoping they still are and have gotten better with their blacks.

David, please put some pressure on LG and Panasonic to send over the PS60/80 and V10 asap. Since CES there has been little mentioned and I need to compare those two models with the Samsung PN650/850/860. Even though it looks as if none of them will have the blacks of the outgoing Kuro's, I would like to know who's next in the pecking order.

Thanks for all the hard work and info you provide.
