We've heard rumors of the T-Mobile G2, but we're always weary of such speculation until we get the official word from the carriers or cell phone manufacturer. However, the likelihood of a T-Mobile G1 successor is high and now, it's all but just been about confirmed by T-Mobile.

In an interview with Fierce Wireless, Neville Ray, T-Mobile's senior VP of engineering, revealed that the carrier is planning to release more 3G-capable smartphones and Google Android devices in 2009. "As the year progresses there will be a significant number of HSPA-capable smartphones. We will be launching more G series phones and other products," Ray said. He also added that T-Mobile would be a launching a "data card" product in the coming weeks and months.

T-Mobile, which is already struggling for U.S. subscribers, will face some stiff competition this time around, though. Unlike the G1, which was the first and only Google Android smartphone to be released in 2008, there are a number of device manufacturers and carriers expected to release Android phones in 2009, including Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Garmin, and Sprint. Worrisome for T-Mobile but good news for Android fanboys and girls.

If T-Mobile would stop selling weird phones (like G1or Sidekick) that only certain people want, they wouldn't have to worry. Many people shop for a phone and consider their service provider afterwards. I am a T-Mobile customer who is getting frustrated with this. I think their best phone over the past few years was the MDA.

they need better phones, in terms of 3g, touchscreen, high quality camera phones, etc. i'm a tmobile user, and its frustrating to see that verizon and at&t have the best looking phones. i would switch but i don't have the money to do that. most of the tmobile phones are ugly or basic. there needs to be more variety and features.

After 5 years, Firefox faces new challenges

Mozilla helped reshape the Web since releasing Firefox 1.0 five years ago. Now it's got a reawakened Microsoft and Google Chrome to reckon with.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?

Almost every handset comes with mapping software these days, but standalone GPS devices are becoming more affordable than ever.
