Fancy using your PS3 controller for PC gaming?

by Philip Wong
DualShock3 controller

Here's a quick backgrounder. A Japanese software programmer has released Microsoft Windows XP/Vista drivers for PlayStation 3's SixAxis and DualShock3 controllers.

Unlike Microsoft, Sony has never released the relevant software to enable its controllers for PC gaming. These unofficial drivers are a stopgap that also unlocks the force feedback function, though compatibility is limited to wired USB operation at the moment.

You can download the drivers here with instructions courtesy of the nice folks from the DCemu UK forum. We've test-driven them on our Lab's SixAxis controller but to no avail, though there are some successful examples in the above-mentioned discussion. No harm trying anyway.

Why would a person using a keyboard and mouse want to downgrade to a ps3 controller?

A keyboard and mouse are better for the vast majority of games, and a PC joystick is better for sim type games and software.

There have always been console type controllers available for PC, but I've never seen anyone using one. I bought one myself just to try, but it didn't take long to switch back.

Controllers over keyboard and mouse for racing sims ANYDAY... Play Race Driver GRID with keyboard and mouse, and let me know if you still think it is all that is holy. What a joke... Keyboard and mouse for FPS and RPG for sure though.

This is the most ridiculous....You supply a the maker of the driver whose page is in japanese. Try to translate with google and only some of it translates, so you don't know what to download. 2nd one goes to the UK page you gave and they have the drivers, but one has to sign up to get them....Give me a break. I Don't want the drivers that bad that I would sign up to a forum that I have no use for. 3rd the drivers once in stalled, the windows where you tweak (from what I can see in the instruction on the UK forum) are in japanese. Again give me a break. If you cannot get all this in english and without signing up for a bs forum, THEN DON' T TELL ABOUT. THIS INFO YOU FURNISHED IS USELESS!!!!!
