There are phones with cameras, and then there are cameras with phones, and a new badboy reportedly making its way to T-Mobile seems to be the latter. This touch-screen Samsung beast features an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with flash and what appears to be optical zoom.

That would make the camera on this phone better than my normal point 'n' shoot, which I adore.

This would also probably be the highest-resolution in a camphone available in the U.S. as a subsidized handset. Since T-Mobile's 3G is finally becoming available all over, look for that as well.

TmoNews, an unofficial T-Mobile blog, says the phone is expected to be named name "Memoir." It's not meant to take on the iPhone--T-Mo has the G1 for that--but for people who want to keep a decent camera with them at all times and don't want to carry separate hardware it could be a great choice.

Enough is enough! I've suffered through the amateurish photography on your blogs silently assuming that, like all amateurs, you just don't know any better. Even though it isn't difficult to take a good (outstanding even) product shot, the crap just kept on coming. Now I know that you are all just lazy. An blog about a camera for crissakes, and it's not in focus! You should be ashamed!. Don't you guys have editors?

Yes, it's a crappy photo. But we didn't take it. I do much better than that.

It was a spy photo, likely taken without permission with whatever camera the spy had handy, probably their cellphone. For real product photos we have real photos. But when someone sends out a spy photo all 007-like, we don't have a lot of control over how they lok.

We promise we'll have new, better photos of this device when we get our high-rez mitts on one.

Remember, megapixals aren't everything. It's more about the sensor. A 6M SLR will take way better pictures than an 11M point and shoot. The phone will most likely have a very sub-par sensor and play off of the public's obsession with megapixals.

Hopefully they allow for a decent amount of expandable memory...seeing as you're going to be carrying this thing around for your cell phone AND camera needs!
