OMG! It's a keyboard for blondes

by Sharon Vaknin

A fully functional pink keyboard? Perfect!

(Credit: Keyboard for Blondes)

Blondes have suffered decades of ridicule, but it's time they embrace the jokes. When it comes to a hot-pink boost of self-confidence (or at least a few good laughs), the Keyboard for Blondes may do the trick.

The all-pink keyboard swaps out standard keys with funnier, dumber key names. The backspace key now says "Oops!" and the entire row of function keys spells out USELESS KEYS. Hit the "$" sign and you get the sound of a cash register clinking.

Blondes can even get a little technical and use special keys that type out "OMG," "ALI" (Absolutely Love It!), or "XOXO." My favorite? The Caps Lock now says: "Warning! size XXL letters."

Though this fully functional keyboard would be a great gift to poke some fun at your fair-haired friends, regular computer users may find it a bit challenging. However, like the completely blank Das Keyboard, the Keyboard for Blondes might help poor typists improve their skills, since the keys are 1) a distracting pink, and 2) no longer have the standard labels.

According to its manufacturer, European Trends, the keyboard has already been released in the U.K to some success, and at $49.95 probably only a true blonde would purchase this novelty item. It's compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux. I know what Paris Hilton will be getting for Christmas.

Do you read the headlines?

"Kernel vulnerability found in Vista".

I'd rather have the security of OSX on a Mac than the instability of a Windows PC any day.
by pithenumber November 26, 2008 9:08 AM PST
Mac=Tricycle
Win=Training Wheels
Win/Linux Dual Boot
Linux=Motorcycle
by compudoc318 November 26, 2008 9:49 AM PST
id rather have the software choices of a pc, i mean if mac is great, why have boot camp...lol oh wait, to do all the stuff a mac cant do!
by spoonman522 November 25, 2008 10:23 PM PST
Read the headlines?? Well here is one headline just a few days old from ZDnet.com. "Mac OS X targeted by Trojan and backdoor tool." Here is the story if u want to read it: http://news.zdnet.com/2424-9595_22-251586.html?tag=nl.e550
OSX isn't as safe as it used to be.

I asked my Mac frienemies "would they download and run a file that claims to be a Mac virus" most said yes. People overestimate the security of Mac OS.

Oh yea, before i had gotten distracted from the previous comments, just wanted to say that that keyboard is hilarious. My fav. keys are the function keys a.k.a. "use less keys", and the "Any Key."

I've used both mac's and pc's. Mac's are for those who need training wheels. PC's have a lot more meat to them and I believe using Linux is for the do-it-yourself'ers.

The keyboard is pretty stellar! I agree on switching the DEL key to the OOPS! Key. Which one should we make the "Sorry Honey" key!

Been there, done that, don't miss it.

If you enjoy an operating system that requires daily maintenance of downloads, installs, patches, reboots, etc., then Windows is for you and you deserve it.

On the other hand, if you enjoy an operating system that just works (albeit, not perfect), then the Mac is for you.

Either way, the choice comes down to what you value more.
by seanh1231 November 26, 2008 9:45 PM PST
One, who wants to watch movies on a tiny computer screen? Two, see first comment. And three, the gaming argument is the oldest and perhaps WORST argument in the book. Chances are if you have a Mac, you don't play games so this point is moot. I personally am a fan of both Mac OS and Windows, for different reasons and I find this debate about which is better completely pointless. Everyone is different. Some people like Mac OS, some like Windows, and some like Linux, but just because you don't all agree with each other doesn't make anyone wrong.

OMG this keyboard is approved by American Blonde Association of America! LMAO

omg can you all shut up about the operating systems for ONE SECOND.

Seriously, windows people, just shut the **** up. Have ANY of you stopped to consider that maybe the original poster was just implying that Macs are becoming more popular? Christ what is with you guys and jumping up at every opportunity to rag on Macs like a pack of rabid dogs. Pathetic.

OH WOW THEY FOUND A TROJAN FOR THE MAC.
How many are there for windows again?

Also, people would have to be pretty retarded or nonexistent to intentionally run a virus for OS X on a Mac.

I may not be able to read a blu-ray disk on a Mac, but why watch it on my Mac when I can watch it on my dedicated blu-ray player that's attached to my home theatre set-up? IMO, 60 inch plasma +7.1 surround sound > 24" imac for watching movies.

Again, why would I need HDMI if my display is already built into my computer.
And games? *****, please. Macs can run windows too.

Mac = Tricycle?
Windows = Missing wheels.

Aw, come on: if it were REALLY for blonds, it would come with a pink nail file, a cute little pink vile of white-out for the screen, and a folder of prewritten responses such as: grand-parental letters; business reports; college applications; various apologies; and thank yous; all prepared with the word 'LIKE' i interjected every 4Th word!
Maidensolo: a previous 4 yr bottled blonde. (And it was more fun)

"One, who wants to watch movies on a tiny computer screen" Yeah, really, that's why I have my PC hooked up to my 40 in. 1080p Samsung via HDMI and running 7.1 audio to my Pioneer Elite receiver via optical digital audio. Total price for the Vista Box with these connections and 4 Gigs of RAM, less than 500 bucks! Try to do that with a MAC. Oh, yeah, and I haven't had to reboot in over a week.

As a true blonde I am tired of the blonde jokes, since they are actually racist in nature and especially since I'd bet most of the "blondes" out there come from a bottle of hair dye, i.e. "blonde envy". How about marketing a "keyboard for blacks" .... would that be so funny? ... let's see.... a key with a banana on it, and a watermelon key, the "dat" and "dem" keys, and don't forget the key that takes you to all the welfare websites, and one with the KFC colonel's picture on it. Wow, that doesn't seem so funny, does it? ...... actually it does seem a little funny ......

I totally agree with you. "Blonde Envy" it is. I think it is pathetic that so many people in our society are obsessed with women's hair color. Men aren't treated that way. I think we should bring back the "dumb black people" stereotype and the "dumb Pollock" stereotype. There is a reason why those stereotypes aren't perpetuated anymore... it is because neither the blacks nor the Polish population took kindly to them so, hence, they became politically incorrect and deemed racist. But blondes ... well we're supposed to take it. What about all the little blonde girls out there who are being fed the massage that they are less intelligent and who are being treated that way by a bunch of jealous women who WISH they had beautiful natural blonde hair. It is pretty sad that so many people are obsessed with women's hair color to the extent that they don't have much of anything else going on in their own lives to focus on besides their jealousy and low self-esteem. I think the keyboard being addressed in this blog is racist and perhaps I'll just sue the manufacturer because of its racism and hate speech. While I'm at it perhaps I'll sue the movie studios and television studios the way the black community and other groups do if they are portrayed in an unfavorable light. The stereotype stems from jealous nonblonde women who are afraid that their man might look twice at a woman because she is an attractive blonde. Which is rdiiculous because beauty, sex appeal and intellict have nothing to do with hair color and everything to do with how a woman feels about herself, genetics and level of education. So, to all of you women who suffer from "Blonde Envy", get a more interesting life, find more interesting things to focus on rather than focusing on the women you are jealous of, work on your self-esteem and THEN perhaps men will look twice at you. Intellect has nothing to do with hair color ... but then, I'm probably singing to the choir here as those of you who actually think that intellect is determined by hair color are too dumb to understand my point of view ... it goes right over your brunette head ...

hair color doesn't matter. it's just fun to tease--as haha that was a good one(joke). ur not really discriminated. unless your one of those that think your better than every1 else because you wear prada types and other crap like hollister, american eagle, aroepostle, and wet seal stuff.(don't ask how i know this).but still "as a true 'black'" don't discriminate about others just because we think it's funny. even my blonde friendish type person thinks it's funny. (but she is a blonde) j/k i'm kidding.
by bgrimsle January 28, 2009 2:41 PM PST
Countries with a high number of naturally blonde people (Sweden) have high average IQ test scores. The "dumb blonde" myth refers to -unnatural- blondes only. Since that is a lifestyle choice, it is fair game.

I love it. It's always fun to ridicule other people. Let's see more keyboards for other genetic traits. How about a Keyboard for *******: all black, no annotations on the keys because they can't read anyway. I know, a Keyboard for Slopes: yellow with slanted keys. I can't wait to see the Keyboard for Downs Syndrome, now THAT will be funny.

People!!!! what's wrong with you? did everybody forget how to have fun???!!! this is sooooooo funny!!!! does everything have to be in depth discussion? OMG! All these talks about political correctness.
i don't even see anything on this keyboard that would make it offensive for blondes. do you? by commenting on stereotype, you are feeding the stereotype. i am a blonde. and i absolutely love it! and yes, i know how to use all the "f "keys. I am so buying it!

From reading your comment I can tell that you are not exactly above average intelligence e.g. "I am so buying it" ... this is poor grammar. You say "All these talks about political correctness" It should be 'All of this talk ..." And, by the way, only one person mentioned political correctness (me) so your statement doesn't apply ... but then, perhaps you don't know how to read. You said "By commenting on stereotype you are feeding the stereotype". Not at all true. A person can have and express an opinion on a stereotype and not be feeding the stereotype. Now, on the other hand, someone like you who uses poor grammar, cannot properly construct a sentence (e.g. "i am a blonde." "and I absolutely love it" ... this should be ONE sentence, not broken up into two) YOU feed the stereotype with your attitude, poor grammar, poor sentence construction etc. It's blondes like you who give the rest of us a bad name. Your lack of intellect though has nothing to do with your hair color and everything to do with genetics and lack of education and perhaps having parents who aren't too bright. jane_seltzer@yahoo.com
