SanDisk jams 8GB into the itty-bitty Sansa Clip

I remember when an MP3 player with 128MB of internal storage easily cost $100 and was the size of a fist. Sometimes, new product announcements make me feel old. Such is the case with today's release of an 8GB SanDisk Sansa Clip for $99. That's 64 times the memory you could find just four years ago for the same amount of money, and the Clip is a fantastic little player. You gotta love progress...and a fairly steady decline in flash memory prices.

Along with that 8GB of space (roughly 2,000 songs' worth), the Clip packs an impressive array of features, not the least of which is its compact form factor--it's roughly the size of a book of matches--and removable belt clip. You also get podcast and audiobook support with automatic bookmarking, a built-in FM tuner, and great sound quality, not to mention Rhapsody DNA integration and playback of MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, and Audible files. All that for less than $100 retail--a sweet deal if I ever saw one.

For more than five years, Jasmine France has covered a variety of tech products for CNET--from scanners to keyboards to GPS devices--but she's happiest where she is now: sitting atop a pile of MP3 players, "testing" every music service known to man, and jamming a variety of earbuds in every shape and color into her absurdly small ears. E-mail Jasmine.

Google has its own plan for Netbooks

No, the search giant isn't saying it will build a Netbook. But it sure knows what it would like one running Chrome OS to resemble, and that's a little different from the Netbook of today.
