New HP display and desktop have a thing for green

Hewlett-Packard is throwing its hat into the expanding ring of companies with a thing for green. If you're serious about doing your part to protect the environment or you just want a stylish-looking monitor and desktop, the company has some new options for you.

On Monday, HP announced two new desktops and one new display. According to the company, all three have been designed to have a reduced impact on the environment.

The HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f and HP Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f are the two new eco PCs, and the 25.5-inch HP w2558hc is the new eco-friendly display.

According to HP, both PCs are Energy Star qualified and meet the standards for "silver" registration in the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT). Each PC features a power management tool that purportedly provides up to 45 percent energy savings compared with PCs without power management enabled.

HP says it has taken an extra environmentally conscious step by packaging each system in 100 percent recyclable materials.

Each PC features the following:

• Up to 5GB of RAM
• Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition with Service Pack 1
• A front-panel 15-in-1 memory card reader
• SuperMulti DVD burner with LightScribe technology

The HP Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f features an AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad-core processor and a 640GB hard drive. The HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f includes the AMD Athlon X2 4850e dual-core processor and a 500GB hard drive.

HP's w2558hc has a 15-in-1 card reader that HP says works even when the display is turned off.

The 25.5-inch HP w2558hc Vivid Color Display includes a built-in 2-megapixel Webcam and a 15-in-1 card reader that HP claims works even when the display is turned off.

The display also features an HDMI input, BrightView antiglare coating, and screen height adjustment. And it is Energy Star qualified.

The HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f and the HP Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f will be available on November 9 for $579 and $659, respectively. The 26-inch HP w2558hc is available now for $599.
