Best Buy turns up customer-tuned speakers

If you're going to Best Buy to take advantage of your well-deserved Blue Label laptops, you might want to check out the Klipsch home audio speakers.

Starting Wednesday, the speakers are being sold exclusively at Best Buy--and at discounted prices. Like the Blue Label laptops, the new five-model Klipsch Icon V Series was manufactured and priced according to feedback Klipsch received from Best Buy employees and customers.

The new lineup consists of two floorstanders, plus a bookshelf, center channel, and surround models. All share the same patent-pending technology to reportedly deliver rich, full-bodied sound performances from cabinets that are a lot slimmer than traditional speakers.

They also use other sound-enhancing features, including aluminum tweeters for improved tonal balance; fiber-composite lightweight woofer cones for high output dynamics and deep bass; and high-definition, precision-voiced crossovers for tighter tolerance and higher accuracy.

The new speakers are made of sleek black medium-density fiberboard with furniture-grade wood veneer top or side caps, depending on the model.

Though priced at lower premium than others, these new Klipsch speakers are still quite an investment, costing $950 for a pair of VF-36 floorstanders; $750 for a pair of VF-35 floorstanders; $300 for a pair of VB-15 bookshelf speakers; $280 for each VC-25 center channel; and $330 for a pair of VS-14 surrounds. Whether or not these prices are reasonable remains to be seen.
