In a partnership that could take hotel guests' experience to a whole new holistic level, Philips and luxury hotel brand Fairmont have teamed up for the Asia Pacific region's first Ambient Experience Concept Suite at Fairmont Singapore. As part of Philips' "Hotel of the Future" initiative, regional media on Friday were given a glimpse of what the concept could look like when finalized.

As to when that would materialize, Fairmont General Manager Ian Wilson would only say that this was a "limited life mockup room" and not the final product, as more testing had to be done. Nor is the concept room yet open to the public.

Central to the ambient experience is Philips' range of Ambilight products, both commercial and conceptual, though Wilson, who is also regional vice president of Asia Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, emphasized that the rationale behind this exercise was "not technology for technology's sake but the utilities that it offers."

Over at the mockup room, an actor played the role of a busy executive who used the one-touch smart remote to turn on one of four mood lights (namely Rise, Perk, Lush, and Rest).

Our favorite spot had to be the bathroom, not just for its luxurious size, but for the mood ceiling that looked like twinkling blue stars in a night sky. Other touches included anti-stumble lights, which are motion-activated; Ambilight flat panels; Ambisound theater systems; and wake-up lights that imitate the sun's gentle morning rays and stand in for loud alarm clocks.

Philips launched a similar Ambient Experience exercise with Amsterdam hotel CitizenM in June this year.
