Canon posts teaser ad for new dSLR--most likely the EOS 5D Mark II
Titillating stuff from Canon.
(Credit: Canon)Rumors of a successor to the Canon 5D have been circulating for a while and now the digital-imaging blogsphere is churning again--this time with a brooding ad Canon has posted on some of its Web sites featuring the murky outline of mysterious dSLR and the phrase "Destined Evolution." Everybody thinks its the Canon 5D Mark II because it appears to lack a pop-up mount and has some design features that harken to Canon's other high-end EOS dSLRs.
A next-gen 5D--the current model retails for about $2,300 (body only)--has been a long time coming, and advanced amateur shutterbugs (and some professionals) have been waiting not so patiently for the rumored 5D Mark II to arrive--so much so that they barely batted an eye at the just-announced $1,400 EOS 50D.
Anybody waiting to pull the trigger on buying a 50D until you see the 5D Mark II?

There are also rumors circulating that the 24-70 F2.8/L lens will be upgraded with better glass (it's hard to get much better than what it has now) and will include IS. If that is true, it looks like I'll be getting a new lens also.
That teaser image definitely shows a camera with a mirror box larger than those on an APS-C camera so I'd say this is confirmation of the buzz within the industry being true. Word also has it (though much less certain) that the 5D mkII wil inherit the full frame sensor previously used in the 1Ds mk2 which was 16.7MP which would place it slightly above the 50D in resolution but a comfortable margin below the 1Ds mk3.
I hope that canon doesn't pull a short supply - high demand game with the 5Dmarkll (or whatever they will call it) . After waiting this long they better have some around for people to actually buy. I have lost my sense of humor as far as this new camera goes. And it better be everything and a bag of chips when it does get here! (sorry for the 80's slang) The 50D looks good, but it's not for me.
I for one will stick to film for as long as it's made!

i.e. the 5D!
screenshot the teaser page, open in Photoshop, and adjust the levels down to view the dark areas and viola, you'll see the same left hand dial with the same profile used in the 5d.
Folks, I for one, welcome our new Canon overlord!
