Speedy Nikon Coolpix S610 ready to shoot in less than a second

(Well, world's fastest among compact cameras equipped with 28mm (35mm format equivalent) zoom lens and VR as of July 2, 2008 according to research conducted by Nikon.)

The pocketable 10-megapixel camera uses a 4x Zoom-Nikkor wide-angle lens and has a 3.0-inch LCD with a wide, 170-degree viewing angle and antireflection coating. You'll also find Nikon's Optical VR Image Stabilization technology and Motion Detection system that bumps up the ISO sensitivity for camera shake and subject movement.

Complementing those is the Active Child Mode, which automatically tracks the movement of subjects to help keep them in focus. Of course there's a healthy dose of Nikon's other technologies added in to make this a complete shooting solution for those looking to live fast and travel light.

The S610 will come in midnight black, deep red, and smoke gray. Expect to see them in September 2008 with an MSRP of $279.95.
