Earlier this evening, when it was revealed that Sam Jackson (as Siri knows him) was shilling for Verizon's iPhone, I received what seemed like a longing e-mail from a reader called Harv.
It said: "Add Zooey Deschanel to the Siri ad folks." I thought this was a plea. Soon, I realized that this was a fact. The delightful -- in Harv's words, "adorkable" -- Deschanel seems to be shilling for the Sprint version of the Apple's Siri-ed iconophone.
I am grateful to a YouTube poster with the handle "Thenewxmancxd" for posting an ad that I feel sure will make some nerds' knees knock with all the verve of a UPS man at Christmas. (Apologies for sound and picture quality.)
I am almost as grateful to MacStories for revealing that Jackson and Deschanel are actually being used by both Sprint and Verizon.
What is more important, though, is that Deschanel gets on well with Siri and doesn't dismiss her the way Jackson does.
What is crucial is the little dance she does at the end to "Shake Rattle And Roll" -- a dance that suggests she will not be going out at all today and she'd rather prefer you not to come visit.
Some believe we are entering the age of the Girl-Nerd, one which will see the softer, more human side of digitalia emerge. I, for one, cannot wait.
