Kenneth Cole tweet: Egypt in uproar over my shoes
The shoe and clothing designer sends out a tweet, complete with #Cairo hashtag, in which he jokes his spring collection is causing the Egyptian uproar. He later apologizes.
Clothes, even when black, need still to be classy. The same goes for humor, even when black.
So I wonder how the Incorrect Collective might feel to hear that Kenneth Cole, he who makes those shoes worn by people who don't like to get dirty, sent out a tweet about Egypt.
According to reports, it read: "Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online."
Cole has a habit of putting the initials "KC" after his tweets, just so his rapt followers know that this one's personal. And it appears that this one was.

It would not be for me to conjecture what Cole was thinking. His stores seem often to be adorned with delightfully strained puns, so perhaps he couldn't think of anything to rhyme with "Egypt", though I could have helped him.
However, he did manage to tweet an apology and offer a message in the more than 140-character medium of his Facebook page.
It read: "I apologize to everyone who was offended by my insensitive tweet about the situation in Egypt. I've dedicated my life to raising awareness about serious social issues, and in hindsight my attempt at humor regarding a nation liberating themselves against oppression was poorly timed and absolutely inappropriate."
This post was followed by one that read: "Now just get out into the streets and go buy yourself some of my shiny shoes. Even if it's to wear at a funeral for a friend."
Oh, just kidding about that.
