Mark Cuban screams at NBA refs--on Twitter

(Updated 12.23PST. Herewith Mark Cuban's latest Twittered news- with Dallas being smoked by Cleveland, Cuban tweeted: "just found out got fined25k by nba.) nice". Oh, Lordy.)

How can anyone not enjoy Mark Cuban?

A man who danced passably well on "Dancing with the Stars". A man who tends to say frightfully sensible things as loudly as possible in the hope that someone will hear. And a man who has been fined a total of $1.5million, some of it for complaining about NBA refs.

It seems as if he has been strangely quiet on that subject for a while. Until Friday, when he just couldn't take it any more. What does the modern human do when he just can't take it any more? He twitters.

A little context: Cuban's Dallas Mavericks aren't all that good this year. They might just scrape into the playoffs, but they wouldn't even scare the bobcat who walked into an Arizona bar last night.

On Friday they played the Denver Nuggets, a team that is slightly better, but also a team that has as one of its members, JR Smith. Regular Cubanists will know that the Mavericks' owner was fined $25,000 for walking onto the court in January and yelling at Smith.

Frankly, I've wanted to do that myself once or twice. The man's body is so dense with tattoos that it looks like a decaying English country house drawing room wall and he always seems to play with a little scowl. He also always plays well against my Golden State Warriors, so that might have something to do with it.

"Your Dad's not an NBA ref, is he?"

In any case, after a perceived Smith transgression, Cuban tweeted: "how do they not call a tech on JR Smith for coming off the bench to taunt our player on the ground?"

Which he then followed up with: "scary part of that play: Same crew chief from game in Denver where they missed call - last play of the game & 1st JRSmith/Wright issue."

Fights aren't scary. Crew chiefs are.

One can only imagine how the NBA, an organization that seems uncomfortable with Cuban largely because he's more intelligent than most of its members, will react to his modern form of heckling.

And just in case you were wondering whether it really was Mark Cuban doing the twittering, may I offer you his latest tweet: "just so you know, I dont use a "ghost twitter" like some folks do:)"

Oh, if only they'd make him commissioner of the NBA. What fun we'd all have. Basketball would be better for it, too.

I know for a fact that Cuban was part of HolyTaco.com's Tournament of *******. Did he make it to the Sweet Sixteen? The Elite Eight?

Wow, I didn't know that Cnet censors the word D-O-U-C-H-E, the French word for "shower" and pronounced "doosh".

Ahahahahaahaha!!!!

But that's what Cuban is...

People take sports waayyy too seriously. It's a freaking game people... And not ONE of these players on any team is worth what they get paid to run a ball up and down a court.. If we paid people who actually work for a living that way, the economy would be much better.

I'm just scratching my head as to how this is news, or even the least bit interesting.

I agree with the author. Cuban should be NBA commissioner. Then, all of the senseless BS would end.

Mark is a smart guy, yet he doesn't know about the concept of "regression to the mean". In a completely random system, there will be as many bad calls for him as there are against him. Mark, you're not doing the world or yourself any good by crying over every call that doesn't go your way. Man up. Show some respect for the refs.

Yeah, sure, whatever you say mghotbi. Don't tell that to the Sacramento Kings fans who were screwed by the REFS in 2002. Here's an excerpt from an article from ESPN to inform you of how REFS do make bad calls.

"Referees A, F and G were officiating a playoff series between Teams 5 and 6 in May of 2002. It was the sixth game of a seven-game series, and a Team 5 victory that night would have ended the series. However, Tim learned from Referee A that Referees A and F wanted to extend the series to seven games. Tim knew referees A and F to be 'company men,' always acting in the interest of the NBA, and that night, it was in the NBA's interest to add another game to the series. Referees A and F heavily favored Team 6. Personal fouls [resulting in obviously injured players] were ignored even when they occurred in full view of the referees. Conversely, the referees called made-up fouls on Team 5 in order to give additional free throw opportunities for Team 6. Their foul-calling also led to the ejection of two Team 5 players. The referees' favoring of Team 6 led to that team's victory that night, and Team 6 came back from behind to win that series."

Although no teams are specifically named, it is not hard to deduce the game in question. The Lakers-Kings series was the only one that postseason that went seven games, and the officiating in Game 6 was so questionable that consumer advocate and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader called for a formal investigation

Now you can scream about YouTube on Twitter. YouTube just added Twitter links to every video. Tweet right from YouTube? Pretty Sweet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS3DQfVR2sw

This is going to be huge for some, others are just going to get even more Tweets that take their life away. I personally refuse to add Twitter to my phone. I don't care what you are doing most of the time, but good info and just something on YouTube that makes me laugh is welcome.

Cuban,
is a detriment to his team. Dallas certainly has done better since he has been there, but in the end activist owners get in their team's way when it really counts, as he did in Miami for the finals and as he did with Avery Johnson. He is not a good GM just an owner who pays alot to have a decent team, but will never win as long as he breathes down his coaches neck and serves as a distraction He is obnoxious and if you are not a fan of the Mavericks, or a tech head who loves Cuban for other reasons, you detest him. He is constantly blaming refs for losses in a league where mistakes by refs are a part of the game. All teams deal with them. Of course this brings up the fact that there is another group that likes him.... conspiracy theorists. Cuban is so obnoxious that I find myself smiling inside when his teams are knocked out of the playoffs year in and year out.
My disdain for Cuban is now compounded by the Tweetage factor. How can a grown person allow themselves to be associated with such a silly moniker for a mundane and banal activity. Of course, Cuban has never acted his age nor will he ever. I compare tweeting to blogging of which I like the despair.com quote about.

"Never before have so many people with so little to say said so much to so few."

Cuban is a joke. His team will always be good because he is willing to spend money, but not great since he is always getting in the way of his basketball people.
