Video: Hands-on look at the Zune HD
One of the features of the Zune HD is its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display.
(Credit: Ina Fried/CNET)CARLSBAD, Calif.--As D: All Things Digital wrapped up Thursday, I got a quick chance to play around with the Zune HD that Microsoft plans to ship this fall.
The software maker announced plans for the product on Tuesday and released a photo, but this is a product I was curious to see firsthand.
The most striking feature from my brief look was the device's striking organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display.
I got a chance to see most of the features, but not the one I am most curious to see--the Internet browser. I'm told it's based on Internet Explorer 6, as is the Windows Mobile browser, but the real question is whether Microsoft has made the interface better than that on its phones.
I'm also curious what Apple does with the iPod Touch in time for this fall. If they add a camera and a bunch of new goodies, it could give the Zune's HD Radio and other features a run for their money.
Anyway, without further ado, here's a quick video look at the Zune HD. (Sorry, the video trails off a bit at the end, but hopefully you get the idea.)
As my colleague Donald Bell notes, Gizmodo and Engadget have Zune HD hands-on looks as well.

THAT... that would be very interesting as I have a lot of music and video on my home systems that I have to pick and choose from to load my Touch with. Being able to access it remotely would be awesome.
I want one. The "black" version (seen in the video) looks nice, but I want to first see how the "silver" one looks before buying one.
This is not a slam on MS I just think the Zune should focus on the Nano or the iPod classic
i need to see that webbrowser
HD Video Out?
People make too big a deal out of the HD Radio, yeah it's a good feature, but there are so many better ones.
Possible XBLA integration...?
And I think you're forgetting the fact that it also incorporates all the current features that the Zune has that makes it better than the iPod classic, that Zune Marketplace is way better than iTunes, and the fact that you have the choice to either get a ZunePass or pay per song like iTunes. Try using a Zune w/ Marketplace and Zunepass for a month. It's the best music experience hands down. Now if you could only find a friend that owns one so you could borrow it...
Well first off, the display can be thinner (though I don't know how thin the Zune HD will be). Second, and probably most importantly, the OLED display will result in significantly better battery life.
Also sharper image quality.
I too am interested though in what "killer features and innovations" the Zune HD offers besides just an alternative to the iPod Touch.
"Innovative"? Sorry, that's called "copycat". Not hating on MS, there's plenty of innovation in this product (OLED screen, HD radio, HD video out), but motion sensors and swiping fingers? That's old hat. What rock have you been hiding under?? lolz....
Oh you where being sarcastic.
But, as will the current zune (which is better than the ipod classic), this probably wont change the game too much.
DRAT!
I only have a genetically altered glow in the dark hamster. :/
