Get a 13-month Xbox Live Gold subscription for $39.99 shipped

(Credit: Newegg)

As a general rule, I despise paying monthly fees for anything. But a little over $3 per month for an Xbox Live Gold subscription? I can live with that. Newegg has 13-month Xbox Live subscription cards on sale for $39.99, with 3-7-day shipping included free.

In case you're new to the Xbox scene, a Live Gold subscription enables you to play games online against others. If you buy one of these cards directly from Microsoft (or, say, Best Buy), it'll cost you $49.99. You can use the 10 bucks you save to grab a new game from the Xbox Arcade, go see the new Batman movie, or fill your gas tank with two extra gallons (sigh).

Cheapskate out. Have a great weekend.

Screw it, Playstation Network is free. $40 or $50 makes no difference when the vast majority of XBox Live's Arcade content is dreck to begin with. The 360 suffers from the same problem that the PS2 did at the height of its popularity, everyone wants to make games for it and you have to dig through hundreds of games to find the one or two gems for games that stand out.

Pay $450 for the console and $60 for the game and they expect you to pay $50 to play it online? Playstation has it right. FREE. XBL is a joke. Even after you pay $50 you still have to pay for stuff like maps and crap. And $5 for an arcade game I played 25-30 years ago? Those games should free for my $50. Seriously $5 for Pac-Man? Sorry maybe $1 each.

wow, so to BCF above me...

- 450 for a system? if you want the elite, which very few want. The system is currently only 300

- 60 Dollars for the game? if you get brand new games, yes. and its the exact same price for games as the ps3. actually the ps3 games are often more expensive than the Xbox games, as the Xbox has been around longer!

- 50 Dollars for Xbox Live? Yep. and that is 13 months of Xbox live. and you get a free month when you sign up, so 14 months for 50. though I got my 13 month card for only 40 bucks. Which is UNDER 3$ A MONTH! Considering the online games are much better than ps3's (Halo, Gears of War) and the XBL set up demolishes PS3's, I'll go Xbl easy.

Yeah and you pay by credit card which equals interest that makes up for the $10.00 you so called saved.
