Apple drops iPod shuffle price to $49, adds 2GB model for $69

Speaking of iPods, Apple just announced a price cut on the 1GB iPod shuffle: $49, down from $79. If you can't make do with a measly 240 songs, cheer up: Apple also announced a new 2GB shuffle, though it won't be available for a couple weeks. That model will sell for $69, meaning anyone who just paid $79 for a 1GB shuffle will be crying into their beer.

Alas, I'm among those with teary beer: I bought a shuffle for Mrs. Cheapskate just a few months ago. But she absolutely loves it, so I will bottle up my overpay rage and pretend I'm not $30 poorer.

One additional note: The price-cut shuffle doesn't qualify for free shipping, which applies only to orders over $50. I feel a tiny bit better.

what a waste. it may be easy to use, but it has NO SCREEN! i'd rather buy a creative ZEN stone with speakers or even the best ultra portable mp3 player yet, the sandisk sansa clip!

Sansa Clip would be a better deal even if it was more expensive, and it's not by the way

After my HD based iPod crapped out for the third time in 3 months(nice reconditioning job there, Apple), I switched to the iPod shuffle. That was 4 years ago and it still suits it's primary purpose beautifully. It' is a great light ssd drive perfect for set-and-forget tunes to listen to while cutting the grass and working out. I've been tempted to check out the new ones, but I always come to my senses and remember that mine works fine. Hurray for longevity in this built-in-obsolescence era we live in.

I know it's wrong, but I judge people that own IPOD anything. Every time I'm working out, I see all these sorority girls with their stupid pink IPODs and just think that they act very typical of sorority girls - like lemmings doing what everyone else does. They probably refer to all MP3 players as "IPODs". Ugh.

To me, if you own an IPOD, that means you don't know much about technology or how to use it. If anyone knew at least a little bit, they'd recognize that Apple's technology is outdated and their software is horrendous.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Sansa Clip 2 GB! Got mine for $42 and the sound is INCREDIBLE!

Sounds like somebody didn't get much attention from sorority girls ;) Sorry, couldn't resist. BUT, I'll admit Apple does have it's problems. I mean, my $600 I phone can't send or receive picture messages yet it's supposed to be the most sophisticated phone ever? Knowing it's a simple software update infuriates me. However, they do come out with some great user interfaces and that's what people like about iPods and iTunes. I can hand my iPhone to someone and within seconds they know how to use it b/c it's both intuitive and is similar to their ipod. Liking good interfaces doesn't necessarily make people sheep so don't be so judgmental. (Oh, and I'm typing this on a PC so chill.)

Well for the price drop, depending on the store you purchased it from and the time frame (within 30days) you can get a price adjustment. I am a manager for radioshack and we guarantee our products for 30 days. So all is not lost for the consumers who just purchased the shuffle.

wow how amazing! NOT
the creative zen stone was already in 2GB and already at $50 - what apple is selling their 1GB at, and the zen stone comes WITH built in speakers and even a screen $60 which is still cheaper than apples screenless, speakerless, player
come on people - enough with this apple obsession

Please, those Sansa Clip's are junk. My brother had one and it froze after 3 hours of purchasing it. He definitely got his refund for it, and bought an iPod nano. The Shuffle is a great device, and for $50 is much better. Who the **** wants a screen on something this small? You people are obviously the idiots; Plus, I have an iMac and the Clip doesn't work on Macs, so thats a problem.

What is with you righteous attitudes, you criticizing one of the most brilliant marketing campaigns. Sound quality, yeah ipods could bemore amazing and I admit the sansa clips are better for sound, so much better. However that design is absolutely ridiculous, it looks like a wanna Ipod Nano, just fatter and down right uglier. Look, a higher price object no longer mean a higher quality items, you are simply paying for a brand name item. I'm sure creative, sandisk, etc are reasonable companies, but you don't see them making headlines in media or financial advancements.

I hate bulky items, particularly when I'm at the gym. Shuffles are 0.6 ounces, that is the tiniest mp3 I have ever seen. I use my shuffle only when I'm at the gym, because its convent, most of the other times I use my phone for music. After all headphones kills your hearing abilities, I could care less about the sound quality. If another company can make a product at a smaller size and lighter weight, I'll buy it. But I haven't seen anything else like it.

Out of date? Are you ******* out of your mind, Apple has been voted one of the most innovative companies in the last few years, you thought you brought the newest product, in a second they come out with something different. No other company can even rival at the level it changes at. Their products have numerous issues with them, but generally its quite easily to resolve.

And btw, just because you can't the attention of the girls at the gym, doesn't mean you can bash their music devices. ******.
