My New Year's resolution for 2014 is the same as it was for 2013, and for every year before that: Don't make any New Year's resolutions. And I'm batting a thousand!
That said, next year I plan to continue my quest to reduce stress, and I find that listening to music for 15 to 20 minutes (while doing absolutely nothing else) is a great way to relax.
Of course, music is best enjoyed through a good pair of headphones. Like these: Today only, and while supplies last, Woot has the Sennheiser HD 439 over-the-ear headphones for $39.99, plus $5 for shipping. They list for $99.95 and sell elsewhere for around $75.
The HD 439s offer a closed-back design that promises to isolate ambient noise (though I doubt they do this as well as noise-isolating earbuds). They come with two detachable stereo cables of differing lengths (1.4 meters and 3 meters) to better accommodate your listening environment. There's also an adapter for plugging into older, larger headphone jacks.
For those who like added thump, Sennheiser promises an "enhanced bass experience" courtesy of the headphones' neodymium magnets. For those who like a little extra insurance, Sennheiser offers a two-year warranty.
CNET hasn't reviewed the HD 439, but over 100 Amazon buyers collectively rated it 4.5 stars out of 5. If you've had any experience with the product yourself, be sure to hit the comments and share your thoughts.
Much as I'm a fan of noise-isolating earphones, there are times (especially when lounging around the house) when it's nice to have a big, cushy pair of 'phones that cover your ears instead of penetrating them. If you concur, these are a steal at 40 bucks.
And that wraps it up for 2013! Here's wishing you a safe, happy, healthy, and peaceful new year. A cheap one, too.
Bonus deal: If I had to pick a favorite freebie of the year, it would be Kingsoft Office 2013. The free version is great, but why not go Pro if you can? Once again, you can grab a 12-month Kingsoft Office Suite Professional 2013 license absolutely free. I've been using this as my primary office suite for the last several months, and it's been fabulous. Tell me again why people are still paying hundreds of dollars for Microsoft Office?
