Everybody wants a tablet. And thanks to some insanely good Black Friday-week deals, everybody can have one. Big ones, small ones, even Windows RT ones. Check 'em out:
tablet is cheaper than yours
I still don't get why people have such strong feelings about Google's Nexus tablets, but they certainly are popular. And if you don't mind last year's model, they're now officially cheap as well.
While supplies last, Groupon has the first-generation Google Nexus 7 (16GB) for $119.99 shipped and the Google Nexus 7 (32GB) for $149.99 shipped. (Click the Options selector to choose which model you want.) These are new, not refurbished, and they come with Android 4.1 (though I believe an Android 4.4 KitKat update is now available).
This is the lowest price I've seen for a Nexus 7, though I suspect it'll creep even lower as Christmas approaches. Still, hard to believe these were $199 and $249 barely a year ago.
My tablet is bigger than yours
A 7-inch tablet? Pbbbllttt. A 10-inch? Bo-ring. Trust me, you haven't truly experienced Candy Crush Saga until you've played it on a tablet that spans your entire lap. Like this one: TigerDirect has the Hannspree SN14T71BUE 13.3-inch Android tablet for $199.99, plus around $6 for shipping.
Yep, you read right: it's a 13.3-inch tablet. It features a quad-core processor, 16GB of expandable storage, an HDMI output, Bluetooth 3.0, and Android 4.2.2.
The screen resolution is less than Retina at 1,280x800 pixels, but based on my experiences with the similar Archos FamilyPad, you won't mind it much -- especially for things like games and movies.
Indeed, I'd say pair this with an app like Dayframe and use it as the ultimate digital photo frame. Whatever the case, this would make for a great around-the-house tablet, and it's priced lower than a lot of 7- and 8-inch models. Thoughts?
My tablet goes on sale tomorrow
If you happen to be awake at 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, head to the Microsoft Store, where you'll be able to score a Surface RT 10.6-inch tablet (32GB) for $199 shipped. (That link takes you to the Microsoft Store Black Friday page. Scroll down to the "Set your alarm" section and you'll see the Surface, though the price isn't specified there. However, I have it on good authority that $199 will indeed be the price.)
That doesn't include a keyboard, of course, but hopefully Microsoft will be offering a solid price cut on those as well, because they're insanely overpriced.
Best Buy will reportedly be offering the same $199 deal, though it's not immediately clear if that's in-store only or online. Either way, that's a seriously good deal on a Windows RT tablet, one I'll have to think seriously about grabbing.
Anker makes some of the best mobile chargers on the planet. From now until Cyber Monday, you can score a great deal on many different models. Two great bets: the Anker Astro 3E 10,000mAh mobile charger with dual USB ports for $31.99, and the Anker Astro E4 13,000mAh mobile charger with dual USB ports for $35.19. Both require the use of coupon code ANKERTHX at checkout.
Shipping on the E4 is free because it surpasses the $35 Free Super Saver Shipping mark. If you're not an Amazon Prime customer, you'll need to pad your cart a bit if you want free shipping on the 3E -- in which case the E4 is probably the much smarter buy.
In any case, check out the user reviews for both models. They're off-the-charts positive.
Happy turkey day!
Before I go, I'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving (or Thursday, if you don't celebrate the holiday). I'm especially thankful for everyone who reads this blog regularly and those who have taken the time to write me such kind words of appreciation and support. Not to get all mushy about it, but I am really and truly thankful for you, dear readers.
Now stay out of those stores tomorrow, and I'll see you back here on Friday for some Cheapskate exclusives!
