If you are in the market for an inexpensive laptop to make the jump to Windows 7, we may have just what you're looking for.

Office Depot has the Toshiba Satellite L455-S5980 15.6-inch widescreen notebook for $349.99 with free shipping, $130 off the list price and a good $100 cheaper than the closest deal we could find for this model.

Toshiba's laptop features an Intel 1.8GHz dual-core Celeron T3000, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB 5400 rpm SATA hard drive, a SuperMulti DVD drive, 802.11g Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

The deal includes a one-year warranty and expires Saturday.

Veterans Day bonus
With Veterans Day approaching this week, Amazon is giving away a collection of songs to honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

The e-tailer's MP3 store is offering for free download "Veterans Day Honor" by the bands and ensembles of the U.S. armed forces, a DRM-free collection of patriotic music that usually retails for $8.99 on the site ($9.99 on iTunes).

This collection of 12 songs includes "The Star Spangled Banner" by the U.S. Coast Guard Band, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" by the U.S. Air Force Airmen, and "Retreat" and "Taps" by the U.S. Marine Band.

The following product mentioned is available.

Rick, in today's computing world, celereon is a big no no for almost all the people.
I'd suggest go for atleast a proper dual core proccy.
Newegg has a good deal going on.
It's $400. Pentium dual core T4300(2.1ghz), 2 gb, 160gb, 802.11bgN, windows 7 home premium, and every other basic things like card reader, webcam, mic, vga, 2 usb ports, dvd burner, etc..

FREE shipping is icing.

IMHO, spending $50 more for a better processor and a better wifi card(albeit with a smaller HDD) is well worth it.

d-puk - I like that deal a lot. $50 extra for a better processor, wifi card, and webcam would be money well spent for me...

Once you drop below $400, the quality goes down really fast relative to the price. The T4300 is still a little anemic, but it is a worth while upgrade for $50 in addition to the other stuff.

^ The Toshiba which you posted also doesnt have a webcam and a numeric pad.

So for $50 more you get :
a better processor
better wifi
webcam
numeric pad

I would not be seen dead or alive with this thing. The only thing I would probably use if for is as a home server and put it inside a closet.

I agree that Celerons are pokey, but let's keep this in perspective: $350 is about what you'd pay for a mid-range netbook. So, yeah, $50 more definitely buys you a better laptop, but for the price of a netbook, you get a huge screen, full-size keyboard, big hard drive, DVD burner, etc. I think this deal is pretty smokin'.

Agree on the price part Rick...But we're talking about just $50 more!
I mean, look at it this way...for the $400 Acer is actually a proper laptop of according to today's standards.
And not to mention, when you'll be having the celeron, there will be times when you'd use it not as a secondary pc or a download rig..you would sometimes wish it had a bit more muscle.
And just $50 more you get a numberic keyboard(making it fit for office use and data entry),
Wireless N (Making it fit for multimedia PC at your home, steaming data and pretty much a lot),
A WEBCAM! (If you look at it from the netbook perspective, there's rarely any which comes without a webcam).

So if I were a true cheapskate, I'd dig a bit deeper in my pockets and find $50 more for the Acer.

No offence.

CNET Staff/Rick - Nice find! I was thinking of upgrading my current laptop to windows 7 (approx. $100+) from windows xp, but for $250 more, I could this laptop/backup! The specs are just below what I'm looking for, though. Webcam, wifi n, and processor, but I might make it work!

The 411 on early-termination fees

Verizon Wireless has doubled its early-termination fees for smartphones, but what does it mean for the rest of the industry?

Google has its own plan for Netbooks

No, the search giant isn't saying it will build a Netbook. But it sure knows what it would like one running Chrome OS to resemble, and that's a little different from the Netbook of today.
