Get a sound-activated equalizer shirt for $17

Update: Dillyeo is already sold out of the shirt, but eagle-eyed reader pigmond found an even better deal: $11.67 shipped from DealExtreme!

Geek meets chic? Um, no. But if you're in the market for a simple Halloween costume or you're hip enough to pull off wearing this to a club or party, Dillyeo has a sound-activated equalizer T-shirt for $11.97, plus $5 for shipping.

Maybe you've seen this before: it's the same shirt ThinkGeek has been selling for $39.99. Check out the video to see it in action. (Note: The accompanying Kanye West song may have a few NSFW lyrics.)

Dillyeo is one of those deal-a-day sites, and this one ends around 10 p.m. ET tonight.

The hand-wash-only shirt is available only in X-large size, but Dillyeo says they run small, so if you normally wear a large, you should be good to go.

I'll cop to owning the similar Wi-Fi detector shirt (on sale at ThinkGeek for $19.99, FYI), which I wore a couple years ago as part of my "tech support" Halloween costume. (It rocked.)

Like that shirt, the equalizer is fun, a conversation piece, and a way to stand out in a crowd--and it's on sale for the same price as a nonanimated, nonbattery-operated shirt. What's not to like?

It is a sad day :(

Didn't know about the think geek site though, and that is a lot of fun.

Technically, that'd be a 'sound activated spectrum analyzer shirt'

Yes, spectrum analyzer was what I was going to say. Also, it's lame because it doesn't "analyze" anything. It's just the same pattern jumping up and down.

So technically, it's just a Beat Sensor........

No, but about five minutes after! Sorry about that, everyone. But check out pigmond's recommendation below.

Just an FYI: You can pick this up (and many others) at dealextreme (google it) for $11.67 shipped.

Yeah, it's coming from China and it'll take about 2 weeks but I've ordered from the company before without any issues. It's got a descent rep.

No, I'm not associated in any way with the company, just thought I'd throw it out as an option for ya'll.

I want one of these shirts but I can't seem to find any guides on how to wash them. I'm moving in 3 weeks so I'm not going to order it until after I move. Can someone please please please find a guide to wash these shirts? Every review and piece of information I can find on this shirt just say "I don't know how I'm going to remove the panel manually it seems stitched on" or "I'm wearing a shirt under it as to not get it dirty."

I want one so bad. It feeds my inner and outer geeks all at once.

I don't own one (just another thing I'd have that I'd use maybe once a year - go figure) but from what I've seen you need to detach the battery/logic pack then _hand_ wash - gently.

If the panel doesn't detach with velcro I'd still guess that the LED's in the panel should be sealed and water won't bother the wires - you removed the power/logic already. Just let it air dry for a while before applying power.

I've ordered twice from Dealextreme. It's weird, the first time i ordered a Wii Nunchuck that was defective. They sent a replacement, which took 2 weeks, and that one was defective too. It stopped working on the 3rd day. After that, I just gave up and demanded a refund, which was more of a headache than I've ever had!

A little later, I saw this T on DX, and decided, what the hey, it's so cheap, I'll give them 1 more chance. Well, I shouldn't have. They sent me another defective product. For one, the shirt was of extremely poor quality, with threads hanging loose under the armpit area and also near the waste-hem, and the fresh batteries had no effect on the LED panel. No response, and the volume adjust didn't even power on.

I really wonder if tDeal Extreme has a quality control team? Since the refund was so much trouble the first time, I just said forget about it. My experience with them was way too frustrating. I will never shop Deal Xtreme again.

If you want to wait for 3 weeks for a defective product, though, be their guest.
