Buy an iPod Touch, get a $50 gift card

Apple's price on the second-generation iPod Touch (8GB): $229. Best Buy's price on the same model: $229.99, plus sales tax in most states.

However, the latter is currently offering a $50 gift card with the purchase of the 8GB Touch. That's a pretty solid deal if you're planning to do more shopping at Best Buy anyway.

Because I continue to encounter folks who, shockingly, don't know what the iPod Touch is, here's the scoop: it's an iPhone without the phone. It plays music, movies, games, photo slideshows, audiobooks, podcasts, etc. It surfs the Web and fetches e-mail like a champ. And it runs all kinds of kick-ass programs.

Indeed, there's only one thing on this planet I love more than the iPod Touch: the iPhone I replaced it with. CNET loves the iPod Touch too, as evidenced by an Editor's Choice award.

Side deal: Not interested in the iPod? Buy.com has a 1TB external hard drive for that magical price of $99.99 shipped (after a $20 mail-in rebate).

Amazon presently charges $215 for the 8GB Touch. By the time you add tax to the Best Buy offer the value of the gift card isn't much greater than the entire price at Amazon.

Exactly how much tax are you paying - $35 worth! You might want to see about changing states. We might see $14 in taxes, still leaving about $21 difference after the cost differential.

Nice deal, if you like to shop at Best Buy. I wouldn't be able to use the $50 gift card for a while though, since everything else is such a ripoff at BB.

Ummm yeah because probably 50% of the items there cost the exact same as any where else. Plus they price match. Genius comment.

Example, any brand new PS3 or Xbox 360 game is pretty much $59 everywhere. Same goes for any Apple product. Movies, CD etc.

Wait.. if your comment was true (which it is, everything is a rip off at Best Buy) wouldn't that make it EASIER to use a $50 gift card? Since things are more expensive, $50 would go faster.

It's still a good deal I think. When you subtract the tax from the gift card, it's still about $33.

I know it's not related to the Ipod Touch deal, but another great one for today:
Newegg has a Corion Digital Lifestyles 42" 720p LCD HDTV for $499.99 w/Free Shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889433001&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL121508&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL121508-_-LCDTV-_-L9B-_-89433001

they sell a 2 year Service Net LCD TV Replacement Extended Warranty Plan for $89.99 in case you're worried about the quality.
For the price, it's a GREAT deal (imho)

You can get a free one from this site and it actually works. The way it works is that companies pay for their products or services to be advertised on the company (TRAINN) sites. This completly subsidized the prize of the ipod touch. That is how I got mine for free.

Eh. Good deal but you can buy iPod touch used for less than that online. Wife bought a generation 1 iPod touch over the summer for $105. Can't beat that deal.

Thew stupidity of this deal is that if you want to buy the $299 16Gb itouch they do not offer you the $50 gift card. No wonder Best Buy profits are down 77% this quarter
