The Navigon 5100 GPS features real-time traffic updates, and you don't have to pay a subscription charge for it: The service is included free for the life of the GPS. The last time I featured this model, it was $130. Now, eCost has the Navigon 5100 (refurbished) for $99.99 (plus shipping, and after a $10 mail-in rebate, which just about even each other out). That is one seriously suh-weet deal on a GPS.

In addition to the traffic service, which will advise you of trouble spots and suggest alternate routes, the Navigon offers text-to-speech capabilities (it pronounces actual street names) and a lane-assistant function that recommends the best lane to be in for your route.

Meanwhile, its Reality View presents a photo-realistic image of complex highway interchanges, with actual road signage and exit-ramp guidance.

CNET dinged the Navigon 5100 for its smallish screen (3.5 inches) and unusual dashboard mount. My complaint is with the 90-day warranty, but that's pretty typical for a refurbished unit. And, let's face it, $100 for a GPS with lifetime traffic is unheard of. Get one while you can.

I have this model, bought it refurbished. its a great device. i used it for a business trip recently and the traffic rerouting was great. got me around two interstate accidents no problem. highly recommend.

I bought a refurb camera from eCost; while it was under warranty, I sent it in for repair. When they opened it, they saw evidence of water damage, which voided the warranty. eCost would not do anything. Therefore, let the buyer beware (about warranties) when buying a refurb electronic that could have prior internal water damage. You have been warned.<br /><br />Have a great day!<br /><br />:-)

Or ... you keep an ono Amazon and get a still better version of this unit in the Navigon 2200t for $150 delivered. It sat at $150 for about a week, though it's up again but bound to drop back, so stay vigilant. <br /> <br />It improves upon all the issues of the 5100 and retains the free lifetime traffic. That price beats most folks by $30 to $50. I'd pony up for the extra $50 to get quicker sattelite connect alone but it's got a few other improvements as well. It just requires some patience.

I have the refurb 2100 and paid for the lifetime traffic. I spent around $200 for the bundle. I would wholeheartedly buy the refurb 5100 with no reservation. I just came back from the LA area and believe me the Navigon GPS works great. The latest update was free and the maps of the SF bay area and LA area are accurate. The Navigon reality view was very helpful. I did not know much about Navigon when I bought mines, but I can highly endorse their GPS products now.
