First time ever: A 22-inch LCD for $150, no rebates.

(Credit: Buy.com)

Hey, remember the 22-inch Optiquest monitor from earlier this week? It was $149.99 after a $20 mail-in rebate. Well, now you can get a comparable monitor for the same price with no rebate. Buy.com has the AOC 2216Sw widescreen LCD for $149.99. Shipping is free.

Like the Optiquest, the AOC is actually a 21.6-inch monitor (big deal). Also like the Optiquest, it has only a VGA input--no DVI or HDMI. That's a letdown, but not a deal-breaker. Indeed, if you check the 35 user reviews on the product page, you'll see that most buyers positively loved the 2216Sw--it earned 4.5 stars out of 5.

Gotta love a big monitor for 150 bucks. Remember when getting one for under $200 was a big deal? If it sells out, which is a definite possibility, PC Connection has the same monitor for $155.43 shipped.

The "big deal" is this STUPID recommendation for this POS essentially LOW GRADE computer monitor that this completely unknown brand stuck a receiver in!

Actually, I always thought it was the top of my head that looked stupid (in the picture, anyway), not the grin. I've been begging my editor to use a different photo (which may or may not be any better), to no avail.

What's with all the hate? Would you say that to someone in person? Grow up man.

Wow websterphreaky, if you don't like it then don't read it. Get a life.

I'm really happy to see people speaking up on the unnecessary behavior displayed here. Even strong disagreements don't need to degenerate into such a post. It is also a shame because constructive criticism can get lost in all of that.

As far as the LCD... I'm tempted. But I would like to hold out for an HDMI/DVI option I am looking to replace the TV and 17" LCD on my desk with a unit that can handle both functions. Fingers are crossed and I am patiently researching.

Thanks, All.

Rick, please delete websterphreaky's post above, it serves no purpose and is an extremely poor representation of those of us who read your column and appreciate it, whether we're interested in the product that day or not.

AOC is not a no name brand.
by hhandyman November 25, 2008 7:13 AM PST
Dont tell anyone but most often its the No name screens you see at storefronts so what as long as it does its job and gives you a good advertisement if its stolen its like a timex watch when it breaks you toss it or when you get your tax papers it can be expenced out rather than capitolised out with the cost

think with a buisness mind and you wont be as broke at the other end of the year.

Oh, forgot to mention: The AOC has a three-year warranty.

Thanks Rick! I have bben looking for a good deal on a big monitor and this looks like it may be the one. Before i pull the trigger, do you have an opinion on the possibility that this might be a banner-year for after-Christmas deals?

Whoever edited or deleted my post, maybe if you actually took the time to read it you would have seen that I was responding to websterphreaky's clearly immature response.

Yes, I would say that to someone if they had the same type of attitude.

Editing or Deleting my comment and leaving his clearly shows you need to actually read what's being discussed before you take action on something. Maybe in the future you can "Grow up" and not abuse your power running around editing or deleting posts.

Not sure what post you mean, but I didn't delete or edit anything. In fact, I don't have the power to do so; all I can do is "report offensive content" like anyone can.

That being said, I appreciate all the support!
by UrDaddy November 26, 2008 8:14 AM PST
I think someone reported my previous comment as offensive and the site deleted it, oh well. Just a misunderstanding on my part.

Keep up the good work Rick, and ignore posts like websterphreaky's. You do a great job finding deals.

I believe Office Depot is going to have a 22" Acer monitor on Black Friday for $129. Tough decision. Or pay a few bucks more for a Dell or a Samsung. I don't know, i just don't know. as long as it doesn't have dead pixels

no HDMI, but it does have DVI

Excellent find!
by lundp_dotmac November 25, 2008 6:34 PM PST
We just received one of these monitors from our supplier at Sarcom and I was geniunely surprised at the quality for a low cost 21.6" monitor. The lack of a DVI input is a bit of an issue, but that this price point, no big deal. I wish AOC had a 22" monitor with DVI input for $10 more....

I have no idea how good PC connection is, but I would probably spend the extra five bucks so as not to have to deal with buy.com I've heard some pretty bad horror stories.

This is a ridiculous price, but I think I'm gonna hold out for a little more in the features department. Keep 'em coming!

I have done business with Buy.com in the past and have only had great experiences. In one situation I bought a digital camera, received it and realized it wasn't for me, and returned it. Unfortunately I left my 2 GB memory card in the camera. Buy.com returned the memory card for free. Since then I use Buy.com whenever possible.
