Get a Samsung Blu-ray player and four Blu-ray movies for $177.78 shipped

by Rick Broida

1 Blu-ray player + 4 movies = killer deal.

(Credit: Samsung)

Remember the $195 Sony Blu-ray player from last week? Feh. Amazon has a promotion going that blows it out of the water. In a nutshell, you can save $100 instantly when you buy a Blu-ray player and four Warner Home Video movies. Choose carefully and you can get out the door with all that loot for just $177.78 shipped. Possibly even less.

Start with the player: You can choose the $199.98 Sylvania NB500SL9 (never heard of it, but it comes with an HDMI cable), or the better-known Samsung BD-P1500 for $207.98. I started with the latter, then chose two $16.95 movies and two $17.95 movies from the list of about two dozen titles. Decent stuff, too: Batman Begins, Blazing Saddles, Blood Diamond, and Phantom of the Opera.

After adding everything to my cart, I used coupon code AMAZONBD to get an instant $100 off. Then I chose Free Super Saving Shipping. Out-the-door total: $177.78. Outstanding.

Thanks to reader guymatrin for sending in this terrific deal!

According to http://www.productwiki.com/sylvania-nb500sl9/ The Sylvania NB500SL9 is actually a rebadged version of the Insignia NS-BRDVD (AKA Best Buy Brand).

Rick, I'm curious to see if people think it was worth the money a year from now. Good find.

Great deal. From the reviews of the Samsung player it seems that the firmware update is already available. I got my order out the door for around $180.00 shipped. As far as it being worth the money a year from now? I dunno, its a gift for this holiday season so.......
It certainly saved me time and money. The recipient isn't paying for anything so it seems like a good deal all the way around.

Consumer reports rates the Sylvania more highly than the Samsung. I would have like to have had a Samsung to go with my new Samsung TV so I could use a single remote, but I went with quality and ease of use over price and bought the new LG BD300. Almost by consensus it seems, LG is heads above in the Blu-Ray player market for now.

The AMAZONBD code deal is back, and better than ever. The list of eligible players is now half a dozen long, and it includes the Sony PS3, the BDS350 and the BDS550. I snagged the 550 and four good movies, with standard shipping, for $335.
