With rumors of new iPods heating up, fresh news comes of a trademarked Apple "special event" to be held in two weeks.

Ars Technica's Infinite Loop is reporting that unidentified Apple sources have brought word of an upcoming Apple event scheduled for September 5. While Infinite Loop's sources were unable to specify the exact details of what is coming, they signed off on a general reading of AppleInsider's recent report that a series of new iPods are on tap.

The rumor mill is heating up about new iPods in September.

There will be at least one new iPod, according to Infinite Loop's sources, but details are sketchy beyond that. It's been a long time since Apple released redesigned iPods, but it has held September launch events related to the iPod for two straight years. The iPod Nano first arrived in September 2005, and new iPods and iPod Nanos were rolled out at last year's "showtime" event in September.

Lots of people believe Apple has new iPods at the ready, but the estimates range from new iPods that look like iPhones, new widescreen iPods, new iPods that run Windows, and iPod Nanos with new color schemes. Guess which one I totally made up.

Shouldn't that say "Rumor"?
by sbwinn August 24, 2007 5:44 PM PDT
I know Apple does events in September. It seems likely that they
will do so again. The iPod line-up needs an update, etc.

But when an article is based on unofficial sources reported by
third party websites, calling it a "Report" seems a bit too
concrete. Until Apple actually invites someone to this event
"Rumor" seems more accurate.

Just a thought.

I can see both sides

Your logic makes sense. However, I regularely see major news networks cite "unnamed sources" and call it a "report." And remember, you're judging the journalistic criteria of a blog with no editorial oversight anyway, so pretty much anything written on it is a "rumor" regardless of sources.

Shouldn't that be OSX? I haven't seen anything about iPods running
Windows, and why should they?

The writer makes the statement, "Guess which one I totally made up".

One guess as to what he was referring.
Can't you read!!!!!!!!

He said at the end man, "guess which one I totally made up?"
Didn't you catch that? Or did you skim the article?
Another possibility

Another reason for this press conference might be to give an update on the release of MacOS 10.5. The last we heard, it was simply slated for "sometime in October," with no other details. This would be an appropriate time to give a one month heads-up.

Windows Fanboys around...
by cooldogjones August 25, 2007 1:57 PM PDT
...the world cry foul as they have realized the Zune would get
kicked down another notch, yet again. Zune prices should drop for
those of you who desire one.

Chalk up another win for Apple Inc. on the 5th of Sept. Funny how
Apple was on the brink of extinction back in 1996 and look at them
now. In the words of Officer Angel (Hot Fuzz), to all of the
Windows Fanboys, "Jog Off!"

Something's up!
by shannerz081 August 27, 2007 11:02 PM PDT
I work for Best Buy in the wireless department, and i deff. think something is up. Apple has reportedly been having 'stock constrains' on certain parts needed for the Ipod. But some other workers and I beleive that this is all just a way to get the current generation of ipod stock down to a manageable level.
As for what is being rolled out, my guess is as good as anyone's. I honestly don't know what they could be doing, though the ipod nano pictures that were 'leaked' onto the net are really gross. if steve job's were to introduce a fat ipod like that he would be taking a leap into a dark pool. The nano's are wanted for their slim size and thinness, to make something so wide would, I think, anger some people.
