Owners of the new 13-inch Retina Display MacBook Pro already seem to be running into trouble with their machines.
Numerous people posting on Apple's Support Communities forum say that the keyboard and trackpad become unresponsive, causing the entire system to freeze. Resetting the Mac's System Management Controller (SMC) has no effect, say some. A couple of users claim that closing the lid for a minute or so and reopening it brings the trackpad back to life. Otherwise, shutting down the laptop through a hard reset appears to be the only way to recover from the lockup.
Launched last week, the new MacBook Pros are powered by Intel's Haswell processor. Based on the posts, it's unclear whether the problem is in the hardware or the software. However, some users report receiving the following error message: "The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)."
CNET contacted Apple for comment and will update the story with any further information.
