Just a day after the release of Apple's iOS 6 mobile operating system, 15 percent of iOS users have upgraded to the new version, a new report says.
That number comes from what Chitika says is "a sample of millions of mobile ad impressions" from its advertising network between yesterday and today.
"This level of adoption is a significant development and a testament to the vertical product structure Apple dedicated itself to, particularly when compared to Android's latest operating system (Jelly Bean) which only saw a 1.5 percent adoption rate within its first two months," the firm said.
The uptake is also considerably faster than what Apple saw with its Mountain Lion operating system on Macs shortly after its release in July. Chitika pegged that at 3.2 percent of machines after 48 hours.
According to Apple, iOS 6 adds "over 200 new features," to iOS 5, which was released last October. Chief among them is an entirely new maps application that uses Apple's own data; changes to Siri that add more information about movies, restaurants, and sports scores; as well as deep integration with Facebook.
The software comes pre-installed on Apple's iPhone 5, which goes on sale tomorrow, and as a free update to those on the iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S. It can also be installed on the fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch, and second and third generation iPad.
