Report: Apple music event September 9

It looks like the annual Apple music event will be held on September 9 this year, according to AllThingsD.

Though it had been reported earlier that the event would take place sometime that week, a source now tells AllThingsD that the exact date will be September 9, and that it will focus on music, meaning no tablet announcement.

If the date is correct, holding an event on a Wednesday would be a departure from Apple's habit of holding these types of events on Tuesdays. The date also gives more credence to the rumor that it might be the day when the Beatles catalog at long last comes to iTunes. September 9 has already been announced as the day that the music of Fab Four will make its debut on the video game Rock Band.

CNET News reported last week that the September event will be music-focused, and will include an introduction of a new digital album format from Apple, called Cocktail. Apple is also expected to unveil changes to its iPod lineup.

The event's main speaker is still unclear, though it would be a prime opportunity for CEO Steve Jobs to make his first public appearance since returning to full-time work. If the Beatles are involved, it's hard to see how Jobs couldn't be present.

"On September 9, 2009, after a nearly 22-year wait, digitally remastered versions of all of the Beatles studio albums will be released, a press release has confirmed. Each album will feature the track listings and artwork as it was originally released in the U.K. and come with expanded booklets including original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited time, each of the Fab Four?s 12 proper albums will be ?embedded? with a brief documentary about its making. The rereleases will include the Beatles? 12 studio albums and Magical Mystery Tour as well as Past Masters Vol. I and II, which will be packaged as one collection. All 14 discs will be available with DVDs of the documentaries in a stereo box set, and a set titled The Beatles in Mono featuring 10 discs will also be released."

Hopefully we here something about the Tablet and can finally stop all these rumors based on nothing. It's getting really old.

As always though, I'm looking forward to the event.

Good grief, reporters... you're now feeding off each other without any pretense to looking up facts or getting real information. One person starts a rumor, two others mention it, the third believes it must be real if those other two are mentioning it, then others start getting suspicious that they haven't heard anything... perhaps it's a secret! That must make it true!

By the way, I heard that the Apple buyout of Google is supposed to be announced that day too.... you know, in case you want to report that too. My source of information is as good as yours, though I admit it was a bit dirty on the mens room wall, but I could still read it.

Yes, that is a possibility. Especially if there is a new iPod that has features not supported by iTunes 8. Time will tell and then the end be known.

That gives them 4x 9's.... where's the 5th ?

9x DVD capacity ~= Blu-ray ... let's hope.

With people like ballmer running the company, you will never get an iPod killer off the ground XP
lol, jkjk
Seriously, you would think that a huge company like microsoft could kill apple in a heartbeat. IMO, the zune HD is already dead. The iPod touch is coming with a camera, and it is rumored to have up to 64 gigs of storange. That would be the ultimate zune HD killer right there.

I don't care about an apple tablet, I just want apple to release the new iPods already.

Yeah I don`t think the Zune HD will go to far either, HD radio sounds cool, but if the ipod touch comes with a camera and the ability to pull some lite editing software from the app store, that`s a tempting combo, bonus points for video. I just wish they`d unlock the blue tooth module though.

Let's not jump the gun people. Remember that these are just rumors. The new iPods could have back-scratched instead for all we know.

back-scratchers* (sorry 'bout that)

Oh I don`t know, these shots look pretty convincing...

This is absolutely a "Beatles coming to iTunes...now" announcement. Same day as the new remasters and Beatles: Rock Band come out.

Also, no coincidence that the annoucement comes one day after the student promotion of a free ipod wiht any MacBook purchase ends. Clearing out the inventory to make room for the new iPods. Is this going to be the end of the Classic?

"Is this going to be the end of the Classic?"

It may be the end of the hard drive in an iPod, but not the end of a big capacity model.

They should have waited until Oct 9th. Lennon's birthday.

Look at all the lemmings running around twittering amongst themselves. Youre all giddy with schoolgirl glee.
Why not deal with the triple amount of vulnerabilities published vs Windows. For that matter dealing with the suge in malware exploits and botnets springing up on OSX. What of the overheating and exploding Ipods. The no MMS on the Iphone. Consider the bad screens on the MBP. Or the inferior graphics cards running in the MBP or the desktop enviroment.
You deserve Jobsy, and all his under the table dealings.
3 more years and Apple will fall again. Im amazed very few have noticed the similarities between now and the first time that crook led Apple to the ground.

There's actually a complete lack of similarities.

Apple is in almost every way a different company then it was in 1984. And so is Microsoft.

BTW, Jobs wasn't even around when Apple almost went belly up. That was Sculley who got Jobs fired and started Apple's near-death experience.

grow up crashpad if u think apple is so bad y r u following the rumors? ignore the apple news and realize apple failing in the past is irrelevent. if u kill someone does that mean u will do it again? just saying lol. and no company is perfect dont hate on apple merely cuz an ipod that sold over 6,000,000 has 10-30 defective players. as far as OSX goes, first of all this was about the ipod, second windows has a million(literally) times more viruses and its easier to get a virus. and the 9600gt 512 isnt inferior. its actually a very nice card. sure its not a 9800 or in the gt series but who really cares? after all macbooks r primarily aimed at professional users.
by Felipe526 September 1, 2009 10:24 AM PDT
They're definetly releasing a new iPod Touch because Apple's offer of a free iPod Touch and printer when you buy a mac ends the day before.
