Woz: Steve Jobs sounds healthy and energetic

With a little more than a month to go before he is scheduled to return to Apple, Steve Jobs sounds "healthy" and "energetic," Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak told The Wall Street Journal.

Steve Jobs' health

Speaking to the Journal at the D: All Things Digital conference, Wozniak said that Jobs didn't sound sick or appear to be in any kind of a health crisis.

The news from Wozniak is the first tentative confirmation to the public that Jobs' health is improving. Concern grew for Jobs last year after public appearances at which he seemed gaunt.

Speculation was that Jobs' pancreatic cancer had returned and was taking a toll on him. An intensely private man, Jobs in January decided to divulge that the reason for his sickness was a hormone imbalance. He said that doctors knew how to treat the problem and that improvement was expected by late spring.

Just nine days later, Jobs took a voluntary leave of absence after learning that "my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought" and as concerns about his health began to overshadow everything else that was happening at Apple.

Not much has been said since. Apple has maintained that Job's health is a private matter and left it at that.

Jobs is scheduled to return to the helm of Apple at the end of June, after the company's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference finishes.

And the internal Apple rumor is that he got a liver transplant. I guess he wasn't kidding when he disclosed to the government back in the NeXT days all those drugs he did.

To compare and contrast without any real data to back it up, we have Woz who eats like a horse and is the enemy of exercise and he seems healthy, though lacking in dancing skills and then we have Steve Jobs who only eats raw foods and was a pescatarian for eons who was ready to take a permanent dirt nap.

I've seen that a lot. People who trash their bodies are healthy and people who take care of them are sick. It's just bad luck and doesn't mean that you should trash your body if you want to be healthy. In fact, the evidence is overwhelmingly on the other end of the spectrum. Cases like the Steves are the exception, rather than the rule.

Being up-tight and stressed and not knowing how to relax and have fun can be a bigger factor than what you eat. It's often the workaholics that have the problems, but then again there is always just the element of bad luck that can make anyone have health problems.

This is irresponsible speculation, and the link of possible liver disease to drug use is utter rubbish. Only a fool would post such unfounded speculation.

I hope he feels better. I want to see many more years with Steve at the head of Apple. He might be a tyrant, but he knows how to get things done.

It's all speculation at this point. Best to wait until the schedule return at the end of June, or if there is an update at the WWDC in the couple of weeks.

It's a very human thing to speculate when people are left in the dark. Better to post wild postulations than to let such idle thoughts simmer and stew to the point that one's own brain melts into mush from the flames of self-induced strife and internalized turmoil. After all, we must see to our own selfish health needs as well...
