Reznor nails his way back into App Store

The Downward Spiral, the Nine Inch Nails album that caused Trent Reznor's big rant against Apple.

Well, Apple has finally approved an update to the official iPhone app for industrial-rock band Nine Inch Nails, after previously rejecting it due to objectionable content pertaining to the band's 1994 album "The Downward Spiral." No changes were made from the rejected version

Maybe Apple relented just to shut up NIN frontman Trent Reznor, whose bloggy rant against Apple was pretty much the equivalent of trashing Steve Jobs' hotel room. Not only did he tell Apple to "think your policies through and for f***'s sake get your app approval scenario together," good heavens, he compared Apple to Wal-Mart!

But he had a point. Apple's commitment to standards of decency in the App Store has been schizophrenic at best: it yanked the otherwise harmless "I Am Rich," a moderately hilarious ploy at making well-moneyed doofuses cough up $1,000, but approved the disturbing "Baby Shaker" until a flurry of press saw it taken down. Don't even get me started on fart apps.

But fans of Reznor rage needn't worry. The rocker has plenty of other beefs with the evolving digital music industry, particularly when it comes to experimental online retail. And he's got that five-word Webby Awards speech to look forward to. Let's hope he chooses his words well.

Well, I am glad Apple woke up, and approved the NIN app..
It seems the person in charge of the approval system for the App store
needs to be replaced... or simply start doing their job properly!

Not being a fan of songs with explicit lyrics, I'm in no place to judge either Apple or NIN. I am, however, keenly aware of the almost-nutty wavering of Apple's "rules.

I'm in agreement with Reznor's beef and your rationale and pleased that Apple changed their position on this app - regardless of my preferences, I'm all for the final decision to move on and make the app available.

Yea, but the little ***** still wanted to be like the other cool kids and have an app in the App store. Boy, HE SHOWED THEM.

His comparison of the App Store to that of Wal Mart was spot on. I love how he said that they wanted to edit/censor out all the naughty words in the music aisle, but make a 180 and there's Scarface on DVD. I never understood that. Why censor the music at Wal Mart, but allow the DVDs in all their naked violent gory glory!

Same went with this app... if the objectionable content was The Downward Spiral, what Apple moron rejected this when you can buy The Downward Spiral on iTunes?

Apple does need to get their screening together. He is a bit of a whiner though.

I think this may have been an over-reaction. While I agree, it should never have happened, the chances are the apps are initially screened by bots, which will flag any with adult content and send an initial thanks but no thanks email. The developer then has a chance to resolve the issue or take it up with Apple, at which point a real person would look at it and see the mistake.

Nothing wrong with Apples Policies as such, just the process they follow, assuming my initial guess is right, of course.

Reznor does not care about Apple store or anything like that. The man freely distributes some of his music in lossless format on his website - now thats progressive!

Besides; everyone who deserves the Downward Spiral album got it already

Christ, my grid computing software isn't as big of a resource pig as itunes.. God, I hate that application.

ALL your credibility as a decent, thinking human being was flushed down the toilet with that comment. Prostitute mart is fine for trailer trash morons who can't afford a decent store and can't think past the dime they saved while selling their children's future. Everyone else on the planet knows better.

Don't waste anyone's time crying when your child can't get a decent paying job. It's your own fault.

Dalkorian is why I want to slap the **** out of most Mac users... he's the type of person who thinks he's better than everyone else. His poop stinks just like the rest of us.

got news for ya chief... using a Mac does not make you a superior person. it just means you use a different OS, nothing more, nothing less. but you take it to the next level and come off as a smug pretentious asshat with a complex.

I've compared Apple with Scientology and Steve Jobs with L. Ron Hubbard. If you think about it the fans of Apple act all high and mighty like Scientologiest do. Steve Jobs has started the Apple religion where he tells people what they want and they follow him. Sony does similar things. Bring out things that they say people want and the Sony drones go "YES SIR". I bet if Steve Jobs jumped off a cliff hundreds of thousands of people would follow him.

Walmart screws over their employees by paying them poorly and having them pay high prices for insurance, plus they sensor their music but not the games and movies? Its all about the money, screw the people.

I've compared Apple with Scientology and Steve Jobs with L. Ron Hubbard,

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I've compared M$ with the antichrist and I've compared former fuhrer bushit with hitler. I bet more people will back my comparisons than yours, assuming the paid trolls don't get involved.

So what was your point again, or did you actually have one? It's about the money? Duh!
by Hellcat May 8, 2009 3:21 PM PDT
Microsoft has done some things i don't agree with but mostly making people pay for Windows 98 SE and coming out with Windows ME. Microsoft takes a while but they listen to their users and fix problems. Apple just brings stuff out and says buy me and the drones buy it thinking its the best stuff on earth. Then they believe the ads that Macs don't get virus', which when the flood of virus' come as Mac gets more popular then they'll be in deep poop.

It has nothing to do with the money, it has to do with a company that brainwashes their user base into buying over priced junk.
