iPhone to ingest EA's 'Spore Origins'

Electronic Arts is bringing its new creature feature to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The game giant's EA Mobile unit announced Friday that it will offer Spore Origins for Apple's gadgets, starting later this month. The variation on EA's new Spore game is designed to take advantage of the motion-sensing technology in the iPhone and the iPod Touch so that players can tilt and angle their way through a digital take on evolution.

The full-fledged Spore goes on sale Sunday in North America. Players get to design their own creatures before beginning on an evolutionary quest through the game's many levels.

EA had said at the E3 game conference in July that it planned to build a number of games that would take advantage of the accelerometer built into the iPhone, along with its Wi-Fi capabilities.

For those whose video-gaming tastes run to more traditional fare, EA Mobile said Friday that it has nine other games in development for use on the iPhone and the Touch, including Yahtzee Adventure, EA Mini Golf, Monopoly: Here and Now (world edition), SimCity, and The Sims 3.

The company also has versions of Spore Origins for other iPod models and non-Apple mobile devices.

Apple has scheduled a music-related event for Tuesday that's widely expected to involve iPod news.

It's too little, too late. Anybody who was hoping to play Origins on their iPhone as a preview to the real game will likely have just bought the real game instead by this point. Honestly, EA basically had this ready back in May, and it's taken them this long to get it out to us?

P.S. The game has already been released for scroll wheel-based iPods.

I can't wait to get Monopoly and The Sims in addition to Spore. That's awesome that they're launching those games on the iPhone!

I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH MY MAY 2008 PURCHASE OF THE IPHONE AT $500.00 TO REALIZE THE NEW VERSION COST $300.00. I AM INQUIRING ABOUT RECEIVING A COUPON TO ENABLE ME TO PURCHASE THE NEW VERSION.

I'm afraid I can't get excited about games on a phone, any phone! Squinting at a tiny screen for an extended period is not enjoyable and probably not good for eyesight! I do like some of the apps now available, for their usefullness and practicality. Vicinity, for example, although it's a shame it doesn't work properly, yet! I view the current 'state of the art' as an interim period. It'll be later, when phones can project larger, hi res images and offer the functionality of a pc, that I will be impressed.

Just a thought! A code of practice needs to be established for the use of mobile devices in public places, NOW! Waiting until they make life unbearable is not an option.

Keep in mind that anything you do on the iPhone/Touch cannot be exported. It cannot be used in the actual game itself. It's purely eyecandy for fun.

Definitely would like more iPhone apps that take advantage of the motion sensing.

Apple needs to make the battery replaceable by the consumer.
The idea to replace an entire phone is crazy.... What ifcomputers were like this? Then RIAA would not be able to go after anyone going for repairs or upgrades.
