Social network Facebook experienced what appears to have been a very brief server outage on Tuesday morning--15 minutes, tops--but looking at Twitter keyword search site Summize, you'd think it were cause for mass panic:

What a bunch of losers. Go get a life. 15 minutes, that's all? Heck, maybe if people are that nuts over it they should shut it down for a week just to let those people know that if Facebook goes down, life somehow will go on.

15 minutes is an eternity to companies that have a huge public face like Facebook. What's amazing is that some web pages are used for connectivity tests since they are so reliable (ever goto Google or Yahoo to verify your Internet is working properly?) I guess we can take Facebook off that list...

Not sure if it's a worldwide problem but Facebook has been up and down for the last 30 minutes at least in the UK. Same problem as yesterday, it's not completely down but it's completely unusable.

I wouldn't mind but I've got some very important pokes to send.

Face Book was increasingly unreliable from 8 AM CDT on. By noon it is dead. You cannot log on. I'd guess it is under attack also and it's not "teeny tiny". While it was still up, most people said it was unusuable. Now it's inaccessible.

Major deal? Not in the grand scheme of things, but it's an irritant if you communicate with friends and family regularly this way.

She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
