Hi, I'm Caroline! This is my new blog, which the benevolent dictatorship at CNET News.com has generously allowed me to create as part of our fun new personal blogging endeavor. Here, I'll talk about the social dimension of the digital world--from the unwritten etiquette of Facebook to the viral sensation of the Dramatic Chipmunk to hilarious misadventures in text messaging. I like to think of it as new media with more cowbell, but seeing as this is the first post, I can't really illustrate that yet. You'll just have to take my word for it.
Additionally, I'm a New Yorker. Our tech culture here is pretty different than the Bay Area, Boston, Tokyo, or anywhere else in the world, and I'm darned proud of it. So in addition to spilling my thoughts about social media, I'll be writing about the newsworthy goings-on of New York's digital scene. Stay tuned for fun photo galleries, interviews, videos, and other multimedia awesomeness from the center of the universe. New York is a social city (sometimes exhaustingly so), and this is The Social, so it fits right in.
But wait, there's more. If you've ever read anything I've written on our Crave gadget blog, you may be aware of the fact that I like to dork out. Which means that you shouldn't be alarmed by the occasional post about pirates, tiki bars, or Dance Dance Revolution. That's your disclaimer.
Comments, questions, and suggestions are always welcome. I'm more than willing to keep the dialogue going. Because that's...social, right?
P.S.: My profound apologies go out to everyone at Microsoft.
