Something has dammed the Twitter river. I bet it was this guy.

Holy cow. Is nothing on the Internet working these days? Facebook's acknowledged that a number of members have had account maintenance issues, and now Twitter has confirmed that "many" users are experiencing timeline delay problems.

Basically, the lowdown is that you can post tweets, and they'll publish, but that your timeline--the stream of updates from the Twitter accounts you follow--isn't bringing up any new tweets. For me, it looks like this started at around 8:00 a.m. PT.

Twitter, which has been prone to many an outage in its three-year history, says it is investigating the problem and will provide an update shortly.

I love how they always say "some users" or in this case "many users". I'm just curious as to why I always seem to be in that "exclusive" group?

That's a relief. I thought an apocolypse may have ravaged the lands. Instead it was just Twitter crapping out. I use it at work to keep an eye out for company news releases. Yes, news releases...

If people don't like Twitter, why bother moaning about it? I don't get it.

Because we still love the internet. Agreed with Ernie. Good luck with all you Twitter fans 10 years down the road when it incriminates you for something...anything.

Leave a few more trails to regret in years to come.

And, yes this trail is marked due to the comment. I can live with my past.

Ms McCarthy on her next job interview...

CM: "And in mid 2008, I started writing about a now, bankrupted company called Twitter. I thought it was so neat, that I wrote about it, like, everyday for more than a year. This was, like, despite all the other topics I could have written about."

Employer: "Tell us why you spent so much time on Twitter, did you think the company had value?"

CM: "No, I'm just a half twit, and well, I don't really know how to do research into, like, other topics, so I just kind of stayed with one."

Employer: "You said that you don't know how to do research, one of the first things you learn as a journalist is to do research, what do you say to that?"

CM: "Oh, I'm no journalist, I'm a blogger."

Twitter is run by a bunch of shoemakers.

Clever idea. P*ss poor architecture and execution. They're probably running SF MUNI, too.

As a student attending Oregon State University, PLEASE DO NOT BLAME THE TWITTER CLOG ON US!

Go Beavs

But really, Twitter needs to buy more servers, and also actually start monitoring the tweets. Otherwise, they are missing out on revenue....

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About The Social

CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
