Gmail is Google's Web-based mail service. It was one of the first e-mail services to offer users 1GB of storage space for their e-mails at a time when others were offering just a few megabytes. One of the reasons Gmail has become so popular is its sorting system, which lets users simply leave e-mail in their in-box. Instead of organizing things in folders, Gmail has employed a filtering system, which essentially lets users automatically tag and sort through incoming e-mail.

In recent years, Gmail has continuously increased its available storage space in excess of 2GB, and has integrated other Google services like instant messaging and RSS readers. It's also caused some controversy with its contextual ads that change based on conversations within e-mails.

Google has its own plan for Netbooks

No, the search giant isn't saying it will build a Netbook. But it sure knows what it would like one running Chrome OS to resemble, and that's a little different from the Netbook of today.
