Of course Mac users enjoy Macs!
Of course silly Mac users are going to flog a study that shows that they, themselves, are five times more likely to say they're "very satisfied" with their operating system than Vista users.
Now, any idiot can see the problem with surveying people who've already admitted to using the Mac.
They're Mac users! They've already drank the Kool Aid! They drank it all up! And possibly drank yours!
Their responses simply can't be trusted because they've already fallen victim to Steve Jobs' voodoo powers.
Hel-loooo?!
Ha-ha! Silly Mac users!
Mythical beast and rumormonger extraordinaire, the Macalope writes about all things Apple for the CNET Blog Network. Read more at The Macalope: An Apple blog. He is not an employee of CNET. Disclosure.

"In a February survey of 2,200 U.S. corporate computer users, 53% of those using Mac OS X 10.5 reported that they were very satisfied with their operating system."
Where are all of those 10.4 users? The numbers are missing on the Mac OS that is more than likely the most prevalent Mac OS in corporate US today. Corporate IT shops don't push out new OS releases until they're tested really well. In our case, we can't use Leopard yet due to multiple bugs in it that are specific to our corporate environment.
And how did they determine what OS they were using? Were they asked? I can guarantee at least 1/2 of my Mac users would answer incorrectly to that question. They don't even know what's on their home Mac when I ask them.
So, reall, how many 10.5 users were there? I don't think its out of line to assume that it would be less than the general U.S. marketshare.. so lets say.. 5%. Of the 2200 surveyed, That gives us 110 Mac users. Now how many are using 10.5? I'd bet a Macalope's salary that it's less than 1/2 of the installed corporate Mac base. Now we're down to 55 users. Well, if 29 of them think their OS is "very satisfying", then- end of study. Lets write it up and make some headlines!!
But hold the phone for a minute... 53% is impressive? Just under half of the users don't find it "very satisfying"? Shouldn't that be a bigger story? Isn't 10.5 supposed to make you feel like you have a purpose in life when you sit in front of it? (I felt like I had a purpose when my fiancé asked me why there was no "firewall" settings under the "sharing" preferences like iTunes told her there was.)
So the article is complete crap. It has absolutely no detail to back its own headline up. The study may be crap as well, but it's impossible to tell because the article doesn't give any details about how the study was conducted.
And Macalope... c'mon.. you should have called this out a bit more.
Business Mac Leopard users are more likely to give a favorable review of Leopard than Business Microsoft Windows Vista users would give a favorable review of Vista.
As far as facts go, I can't speak to that. It just sounds like they were saying Leopard users are happier with Leopard than Vista users are happy with Vista.
I know I would. Especially if there was a microbrewed IPA included with the Mac.
- Yea
- We are running a study that will show you are five times more likely to say you are "very satisfied" with your operating system than Vista users. Would you like to participate?
- Vista?
- We have refreshments at that table, please.
