Boy, those Mac users sure are shrill with their knee-jerk vitriolic hate of Vista, aren't they?

vista is sh*t.

Really MS needs to can that sh*t.

Vista is a pointless waste of processing power and space.

Not only is Vista crap but so is the company.

Vista is bloated, expensive and buggy as hell.

Oh, wait. Those are XP users.

And here the Macalope thought the only unwashed masses on the Internet who stoop to foul language and loutish comments were those cultish Mac zealots.

Mythical beast and rumormonger extraordinaire, the Macalope writes about all things Apple for the CNET Blog Network. Read more at The Macalope: An Apple blog. He is not an employee of CNET. Disclosure.

Pretty similar to what the mac users were saying about leopard when it came out.

Sure cookie, Apple is the new Microsoft, Leopard is the new Vista, capitalism is the new communism, crap is the new good, and your new girlfriend is your mom. It really does all just make sense so long as you say it out loud.

Um, not really... at all.

Haven't seen ANYWHERE near as much vehement leopard hatred as Vista hatred. for every blog and post I've seen that's SLIGHTLY DISAPPOINTED in leopard, I've seen about 500 HATING Vista. Which is pretty bad when you consider there should theoretically be a 1 to 10 ratio.

Come to think of it, i don't think i've seen even one vehement hatred attack on Leopard, only mild disappointment.

The complaining about Leopard seems to have died down. Meanwhile, Vista's been out a year.

Still, the brown and furry one's point is more about how the user bases are viewed, not the relative merits of one OS over the other. Perhaps the post's title doesn't strike the appropriate chord.

Actually, Leopard satisfaction is massively better than Vista--AND better than XP. And even higher than past reactions to earlier versions of OS X, which were also excellent.

But don't take my word for it--look at the satisfaction survey graph:
http://www.changewave.com/assets/wavewire/012108_pcs3.gif

Wow.

That's from an independent, non-Mac-centric industry survey:
independent surveys:

Look at reviews of Leopard, Vista, or comparing both. You'll see the same reaction. Leopard is a triumph. Vista not so much. And a new version of Leopard is coming (free) any day now--10.5.2.

Oddly, I've been using Vista on my home PC for a few months now, and it's fine.

(Okay, no 64 bit flash is annoying, but that's not Vista's fault; XP-64 has the same problem.)

Heck, in terms of aesthetics, compared to XP, I think it might do better than Leopard's daft decisions about transparency in menus and the menu bar, and what they did to the Dock.

The Macalope actually suspects Vista is getting at least something of an unfair shake, his point was more about how Mac users are always considered the craaaazy, uncouth members of the Interwebs when really any user base can get just as worked up if you tweak them.

On the contrary, I've had a terrible time with Leopard, due to their wireless bug, which has managed to affect every single system I have (solved by using the command line to comment out Bonjour in one of the startup preference files). An otherwise excellent upgrade, once the above-mentioned aesthetic problems are overlooked. (Yay LeoColorBar!)

I must say that the problem with Vista is the same as with XP when it was first released and that is under powered computers. Even being a Microsoft Small Business Specialist I've been slow to adopt the OS. I did start beta testing Vista in Oct 2006 - May of 2007 but stopped using it because it was so slow on my older tablet. It was a hardware performance issue. Finally this past month I bought a new high end tablet with Vista and have forced myself to use it. I still found that it met everyone's comments about Vista being slow and buggy but that was my fault, I only had 1gb of memory. Once I added another 2gb of memory the system performed great. Even the Aero effects and transparency effects were performing well. I agree that XP can perform faster but its all those visual effects of Vista that slow it down. Once you add more memory and opt for decent video card it performs great. If you can?t handle the extended cost at least you can turn off the visual effects. Even the new Leopard has higher system requirements.

You should see some of the foul language that comes out of the Linux community (including Linus) when confronted with an argument about something they don't like (for example, HFS+ and normalizing unicode).

Plenty more words from the "XP -> Vista -> back to XP" community here:

(Actually, it wouldn't be fair to say that all Vista users head back to XP. Some go to OS X or Linux instead.)

Those pesky XP fanboys. You'd think they could get over there smug arrogance at having a mature third-rate operating system. Sure it has drivers for some of the current hardware, but is that any reason to lord it over the "early adopters" who are willing to put up with a year or two of maddening inconvenience to prevent technological advances? I don't think so.
