iMacs and more
Unless you just woke up (you know who you are), you probably know what Apple announced a little while ago. But let's review.
The big news, of course, is the new iMacs. The rumored aluminum enclosure and the MacBook-style keyboard were right on the money and rumor junkies everywhere are now experiencing that feeling of disappointment you get when you open your presents Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day.
Still, Apple's set the standard for hardware design. Again.
But what good's cool hardware if you don't have cool software to run on it?
Enter iLife -- which redefines sharing your pictures and streamlines putting together a movie -- and iWork -- now a complete package with a new spreadsheet application and finally able to fully fill the gap left by the late, great AppleWorks.
Suddenly that Office delay looks like more of an opportunity than a threat, doesn't it?
And, oh, yeah, they revved the Mac mini.

addressed in the future, or if we'll get a new dose of that famous Apple
stubborninity?)
Not sold on the looks of the new iMac. I'm kinda surprised by my lack of
drool. They do match my iPhone, though. Have I become jaded? :/
.mac still not worth $100/year. (Or $4000/rest of my life. Or $228,000 if I
had invested that money.)
I may give iPhoto another shot. I've been ignoring it (successfully) since...it
was borned.
Steve seems to like these smaller events. It was kinda weird to see him, Shiller
and the other one alls itting there on stools with their trendy blue jeans
answering questions.
I thought Steve's answer to last question posed was as good a summation on
Apple as a company as could be made.
"We can't ship junk. We don't offer stripped-down products." I don't know
how many times I've said the latter.
Blah blah blah...

I see the Daring Fireball surmising Jobs' hatred of the little Mac. I don't believe it. El Jobso is king, neigh Emperor these days so if he wanted shot of a model it would be toast. Who could have twisted his arm hard enough to turn on the RDF to "the most important Mac ever" setting back when he held it up at its intro in the first place? Couldn't it just be that he lets it live because it fills a gap only less Apple solutions could fix?
As for the rest of the news: all good too. I particularly like the Core 2 Duo Extreme option in the new iMac. Plus this newfangled Numbers thing of course.
No wireless full keyboard = huge, huge mistake. (Wonder if this'll be
addressed in the future, or if we'll get a new dose of that famous Apple
stubborninity?)
Snip....
Didn't anyone watch the actual SteveNote? There IS a wireless version of the new keyboard...
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you think is missing.
"Stubborninity"?
Key word in my comment was "full." I have no interest in a wire-free keyboard
without the numeral pad. Judging from comments I've read elsewhere, a lot of
people are disappointed that the only bluetooth version of this schmancy new
keyboard has the right side fo it hacked off.
