Apple has historically targeted students and education. They even made a computer called the eMac that specifically targeted schools. In fact, this Mac was for a time exclusively sold to educational institutions.

I've used Apple Remote Desktop for education, its amazing. Check out this video made by Apple that shows how you can monitor all the students computers!
