Comcast Digital Voice: Telemarketers included

I'm several weeks into my switch from Vonage to Comcast's Digital Voice. Verdict? Comcast Digital Voice works great. It has yet to go down and the sound quality is consistently excellent.

Unfortunately, I can't fully recommend it for two reasons:

  1. It has an annoying habit of knocking down my wireless connection in my house. I haven't noticed it for the past two weeks, but in the first month it was disrupting my wireless access point on a daily basis. It was easy enough to fix: unplug the access point and plug it back in. But kind of obnoxious, all the same.
  2. Within hours of signing up (with a new number, mind you), telemarketers started calling. I found out after the fact that Comcast sells its customers' data to telemarketing firms. What a nice surprise.

It's amazing that Comcast would treat its customers with such profound disrespect. I've already signed up on the US Do Not Call registry, but why does Comcast need to show such derision for its customers?

They are looking for a way to "supplement" their fee schedules. It is just like buying a computer loaded with trialware.

I have had the same problem with Charter's digital voice service. I HAD virtually no telemarketing calls while with vonage.

As long as they stay in business, I'm happy to keep my vonage. I had a router issue a month ago, but they worked with me to fix it, and I've had no issues since. Since I'm using only the 500 minuter/14.95 a month service, it makes absolutely no sense for me to move up to Comast digital. Even with the bundling savings (which expired after 6months or 1year depending on deal), it's a lot more expensive for me.

I've used Digital Voice for nearly two years and never had any problem with my wireless connection or telemarketers. The first month was a horror show. However, once Comcast put the right people on the problem, it worked like a charm overnight. I have no complaints. It's been as reliable as land line service and the voice quality is excellent.

I'm still not sure why you don't switch to Ma'Bell like the rest of us. Perhaps if you did, our board meetings wouldn't sound like there was running water in the background when you dial in. ;-)
