Palm's Treo Pro finds a ever decreasing potential market

It's only when I talk with Zack Urlocker or Red Hat employees that I'm reminded that Palm is still in business. They seem to be the only ones still lugging around Palm Treos.

In Red Hat's case, it's because the Palm Treo works fairly well with Linux. As for Zack...? No clue, except that Zack isn't one to spend money on disposable liabilities.

With Red Hat's roughly 2,200 employees, plus Zack, Palm has a total addressable market of 2,201 people with its new Treo Pro.

Unfortunately, Palm has yet to find a US wireless provider to carry the Treo Pro. More unfortunately, it will run Windows, so only Zack is left as a potential customer. Zack is the "Avery Wong" of mobile phones:

Palm has apparently started a new marketing campaign for the Treo Pro: "Early and often, Avery Urlocker. Early and often."

Hey Matt...While you're right about RHT people carrying Treo's we are now coming into the 21 century w/ 3G iPhone's and w/ IPSEC VPN support for IMAP.

Hey, Palm Centro is a great phone. But I am a purist --I like the Palm OS. I've got apps I've been using on Palm for many years. Also, for $99 the Centro is a heckuva good deal. It doesn't get all fancy like the iPhone, but it's compact, has a keyboard and doesn't drop calls.

I'd like to meet this Avery Wong dude --he sounds cool!

Okay, two anti Treo Pro articles on CNet, and you haven't even gotten your hands on one yet? I know that CNet is massively pro iPhone, and Palm has certainly been going through a rough patch, but they sold 2 million Centros. How about at least a pretension of even-handedness?

The Treo Pro looks great but I'll wait for the Palm OS before buying one.

Oh look! A new (Old and dated piece of junk!) Treo! I like the Treo pro back when it was the TREO 650!!! Who is still buying these things? I see from the comments and reviews that everyone else feels just like I do (((RIPPED OFF BY YEARS AND YEARS OF THE SAME-OLD TREO PACKAGED AS SOMETHING NEW! WHEN IN REALITY IT IS THE SAME DEVICE))

So Apple comes out with the iPhone and people go crazy for that, and this is all Palm can muster? Wow......Truly...horriblely...Patheticly...SAD!!

Its nice that others are see through Palm's game. Palm comes out with what they consider Updated Treo's. When in reality those Treo's exacally the same!

It's just Palm went to sleep in 2003 and thought the offering the same spec's from that time would hold up in 2008! DIDN'T HAPPEN!! I'm so sick of Palm milking customers like this! IF YOU WANT A TREO PRO, GET THE TREO 650! THEY ARE ALL THE SAME STUPID DEVICE!!

I had a Blackberry I liked while at JBoss, but had to downgrade to the Treo 700p (aka frustrating brick) while at Red Hat. This week marks my move (finally) away from the Palm Treo to the iPhone 3G. I am not really a gadget guy or easily impressed....but the iPhone is a sweet piece of machinery. So for me all of the munchkins in Oz can now rejoice and break out into song - ding dong the Palm is dead!
