At the same time, Google announced its new turn-by-turn navigation software for mobile phones. Does this mean the days of standalone navigation systems are numbered? Reporter Tom Krazit thinks so. He joins today's podcast to talk about today's mobile developments.

Also in this podcast: security threats are up at midsize companies, while their IT budgets remain frozen; Mozilla fixes critical security holes with Firefox 3.5.4; and on its ninth birthday, the PlayStation 2 is still going strong. Get those stories and more in today's daily news podcast.

The free nav app is simply amazing. Street view satellite view live traffic , layered maps live updates from the cloud.

And Apple charges you for an inferior app. We know who is going to win.

This is better than a non-cloud connected GPS. That alone is more than worth $199

Had the Droid a week now and here is the scoop.
1. no voice calling from handset
2. Very fast response to apps
3. Very touchy, just a small light touch causes
something to open without haptic feedback
4. Two operations to start phone each time it sleeps. press on button and then swipe across...too much to wake up
5. loads of app but not that many great ones
6. email not as good as blackberry unless you use gmail
7. physical keyboard not necessary because of offset because of touch pad and keys not raised up, but the virtual keyboard is as great as iphones
8. overall feel of physical phone not as good as soft edge blackberry and if you need a case the sliding keyboard will be sticky. Wish someone would make a case to cover the whole phone not allowing the keyboard to be used as it is not really needed unless you need the screen real estate to type a large letter or see everyting
9. the first few days the battery will die sometime after noon
10. Lighting fast and Qik.com works
11. voice recognition works great but you do need to learn how it works
12. camera is just ok. blackberry 3.2 is much better
13. Video is very good but a bit shaky so keep phone very still or try using a gorilla pod or set on something solid
14. by the way the phone call quality is outstanding
